Long-time Local Mississippi Running Store To Partner with Fleet Feet

Trails and Treads becomes a Fleet Feet franchise location May 1

May 01, 2019 // Franchising.com // CARRBORO, N.C. - Fleet Feet, the retail leader in inspiring and empowering the runner in everyone, announces today that running store Trails and Treads in Tupelo, Miss., will partner with Fleet Feet to become a franchise location effective immediately.

Harris Magruder, founder and owner of Trails and Treads, will remain owner of the store, which he first opened 1997.

“Harris has a passion for running, his community, and for over 20 years, has provided great service, products, and programs to the Tupelo running community,” says Robyn Goby, vice president of development for Fleet Feet. “Harris’ excitement for Fleet Feet, and the exclusive products, initiatives, and data-driven insights he’ll now be able to bring to his customers, is matched only by our excitement in welcoming him, and his passion and commitment to helping runners, to the Fleet Feet family.”

Magruder started his career as a salesman, working for a steel coil manufacturer in the 1990s. He took a side sales job opportunity, selling polar fleece to pop-up shops and Christmas villages during the holidays. The success of this led him to open up his own outdoor store, Ascent Outdoor, in 1997. Over time, Magruder evolved the store’s primary focus from outdoor to running, and officially changed the name in 2004 to Trails and Treads.

“There’s been a lot of changes to retail and running since I first opened in 1997, and partnering with Fleet Feet ensures I’m able stay ahead of those changes,” says Magruder. “Fleet Feet’s approach to outfitting the runner from head-to-toe with the right products and information, as well as its focus on building strong running communities, aligns with my approach. This partnership will allow my staff to support and inspire runners in even more powerful ways, and I can’t wait for the community to see what’s coming.”

Located at 549 N Coley Road in Tupelo, Trails and Treads features 3,500 square-feet of retail floor space and has ten employees. The store now offers Fleet Feet’s exclusive personalized outfitting experience, fit id™, which includes 3D foot scanning, and will soon sell Fleet Feet’s in-house running shoe brand Karhu. The store becomes the third Fleet Feet location in Mississippi, joining locations in Flowood and Jackson.

Trails and Treads will also offer customers the opportunity to connect with and shop Fleet Feet through both fleetfeet.com and the brand’s first-ever app, which incentivizes and rewards customers both on purchases and store engagement through its Fleet Feet Rewards Program. The app is available for download on both iPhone and Android phones.

In addition to Trails and Treads, Performance Running of West Tennessee, which Magruder co-owns with Danny Crossett, will become a Fleet Feet on May 1 as well. Magruder lives in Tupelo with his wife, Janet, a Tupelo native, and their four children. The Tupelo running community can stay up-to-date on events celebration the partnership with Fleet Feet on the store’s Facebook page.
