Hip Hop Icon, DJ Maseo From De La Soul Is Named Partner of Growing SSH Investments Franchise Pierre’s Eatery
May 17, 2019 // Franchising.com // Grammy award-winning DJ Maseo of legendary Afrocentric rap group De La Soul, is teaming up with SSH Investments to build a budding pizza franchise. Pierre’s Eatery is a unique culinary mix of French, Greek and Italian food all made fresh daily from top quality ingredients. Pierre’s only serves meat from humanely treated animals - there is no pork on site - which results in delicious culinary twists such as an all-beef pepperoni pizza. Each franchise also features its sister store Three Layers Café, which brings a community coffee house feel and delicious treats such as the famous J Squared dessert - nicknamed “crack on a plate” by the Florida Times Union due to its obsessive following.
SSH Investments, founded by CEO Dr.Cheikh Mboup, has launched and operated over 23 franchises. Prior to the founding of Pierre’s Eatery, Mboup was the VP of Operations for Edible Arrangements, responsible for global operations, real estate and construction for over 1200 locally owned and operated outlets. Mboup also previously served in positions with Lone Star Funds under its formerly owned brand Winn-Dixie Stores. Vincent Mason also known as DJ Maseo from iconic hip hop group De La Soul quietly maintains a key spot in hip hop history. De La Soul burst onto the scene and innovated hip hop by colouring outside the lines, sampling a diverse array of untouched, previously unsampled artists such as The Turtles, Hall & Oates, and Steely Dan on their critically acclaimed debut "3 Feet High & Rising." Mason's role in De La Soul is primarily that of a DJ, with Mason stating that he is “a b-boy to my heart”, drawing inspiration from life experience and contemporary global events. He’s a six-time Grammy nominee and winner, three of which came for “Feel Good Inc.,” the lead single from fusion super-group Gorillaz. De la Soul won best Pop Collaboration in 2006.
The link to Pierre’s eatery was created through Troy Mcnair, Sr, SVP of Development and Strategic Partnerships for Gangplank Management & Entertainment Media. McNair’s introduction to Pierre’s and Mboup proved to be a monumental connection. DJ Maseo will be leading the opening of 54 stores nationwide in the coming year.
