Two-Time Kumon Parent Steps Up to Bring Back Opportunity for Academic Independence into the Community

Kumon Math and Reading Center of Santa Cruz has Officially Reopened

July 12, 2019 // Franchising.com // SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - It took just a few Kumon classes for Jeanette Garcia to see a change in her son. A second-time Kumon Parent, she saw it help her older son soar in school some 20 years ago, and was excited to see the start of significant academic improvement for her youngest. When her local Kumon Center closed suddenly and unexpectedly last summer, Jeanette saw an opportunity to step up to the plate to bring back the opportunity for academic independence into the community. She’s always had a passion for education, but was not certain which grade level or subjects she should limit herself to. Now, as the proud owner and Instructor of the newly reopened Kumon of Santa Cruz, Jeanette doesn’t have to choose - she’s now working with all grade levels in both math and reading.

“Kumon is a unique curriculum that allows children to make progress at their own pace while noticeably improving their skills, confidence and independence,” said Jeanette Garcia, owner of Kumon of Santa Cruz. “I’m looking forward to supporting each student in developing a passion for life-long learning so that they are capable of realizing their own greatest potential.”

Jeanette was dedicated to bringing back a local Kumon Center, knowing full well how large of a commitment the undertaking would be. A main reason for this was because of the way she feels Kumon eliminates barriers for students who struggle in the classroom.

“When students struggle in school, it can sometimes impose limitations on what they think they are capable of,” said Garcia. “Our children are our future, and I want to avoid any doubt in their minds that they can be whatever they want to be.”

Kumon is an after-school math and reading enrichment program that aims to unlock the potential of children, so they can achieve more on their own. The learning method uses an individualized approach that helps children develop a solid command of math and reading to increase confidence, improve concentration, and develop better study skills.
