Rush Bowls Bringing Its Fresh and Healthy Meals in a Bowl to Houston

Colorado chain signs franchise development deal for three area restaurants; Calls for as many as 10 total locations over the next several years

September 03, 2019 // Franchising.com // BOULDER, Colo. - A Colorado-based fast-casual concept known for its fresh and healthy meals-in-a-bowl is planning to open multiple locations in the Houston area.

Husband and wife Ryan and Michelle Taylor have signed a franchise development agreement to open three Rush Bowls over the next few years, the first of which is slated to open by the end of the year at 6001 Washington Avenue, just blocks from Memorial Park. Though exact addresses have yet to be announced for the other two locations, the Taylors have their sights set on Rice Village, The Heights and the Houston Galleria, among other areas within the 610 Loop.

The Houston development plan is part of a big Texas move for Rush Bowls. The company has already opened four locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area over the past 12 months and has now turned its attention to opening as many as 10 total restaurants in the Houston area.

“We noticed that there was a lack of healthy eating options in Houston and after seeing Rush Bowls’ success in other markets across the country and Texas, we knew this would be a great opportunity,” said Michelle. “Rush Bowls thrives off of creating delicious, wholesome, all-natural food that makes you forget you’re eating something good for you. Houston is a very active city that is full of energy, and we are excited to provide healthy meals to fuel our community.”

Founded in 2004 by a former Wall Street executive, Rush Bowls serves meals-on-the-go in the form of bowls made from blended fruit and vegetables, then topped with organic granola and honey, and other nutritious ingredients. It has 40 bowls on its menu, as well as smoothies made with fruit and vegetables, including acai, kale and avocado, to name a few.

Vegetarian, vegan, wheat-free, gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free and nut-free options are also available.

“Rush Bowls was created with the intention to provide healthy meal options for college students. Our popularity quickly grew beyond the campus into surrounding communities, where residents were also seeking innovative, nutritious alternatives,” said founder and CEO Andrew Pudalov. “Our wholesome, all-natural offerings taste so delicious, you may forget it’s also good for you. We are excited about our explosive growth and look forward to expanding Rush Bowls as a national player in the health food industry.”

The local expansion plans come at a time when Rush Bowls continues to rapidly expand its national footprint. Today, there are 22 locations open and operating in 13 states and Canada, with nearly 100 additional Rush Bowls’ in various stages of development in over 20 states.
