Ogden DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen Wins Top Interior Design Award

September 13, 2019 // Franchising.com // DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Ogden, Utah, has won the company’s 2019 Dream Award for best residential interior design for an entryway stair railing custom-built to match the overall Craftsman style design of the home.

The Ogden DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen is one of 35 franchise locations across the U.S. dedicated to bringing a higher level of honesty, transparency, and expertise to the home remodeling process.

The awards were presented in late June at DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen’s annual conference in Waco, Texas. Winners are selected by an impartial panel of industry-expert judges, and entrants are judged on functionality, problem solving, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty and project presentation.

“This interior element was a beautiful transformation of an entryway stair railing,” says franchise owner and general manager Nathan Coombs. “After realizing the existing banister wasn’t structurally sound, the homeowner wanted remake it into a grand entryway showpiece to match other design features of their home.”

Most manufactured railings are similar in design at an angle that would not work in the home, and it took some very strategic planning between the designer, the woodworker, and the homeowner to solve the replacement problem. A woodworker solved the problem by hand-crafting a new railing with angles that fit seamlessly, says Coombs.

“The railing is the first thing you see when you enter this home, and the original one was very outdated and made of unpleasantly yellow oak. The new railing is a more modern rich brown stain chosen by the owners because it perfectly matched other design elements added while the updated the rest of the home.”
