Wag N’ Wash Natural Pet Food & Grooming Recognized for Supporting Veterans

Specialty Pet Retailer Earns Prestigious Award for Raising Over $12,000 Towards Freedom Service Dogs

September 25, 2019 // Franchising.com // CENTENNIAL, Colo. - The International Franchise Association (IFA) recently awarded, Wag N’ Wash Natural Pet Food & Grooming, the silver award in its “Support Our Veterans” category during its annual Franchising Gives Back ceremony. It was in recognition for the brand’s 2018 Round Up for Freedom Service Dogs campaign.

In July 2018, Wag N’ Wash announced a partnership with nonprofit Freedom Service Dogs as part of a fundraising campaign, Round Up for Freedom Service Dogs. The campaign aimed to raise money to help veterans regain their independence by obtaining the assistance they need from a service animal, free of cost. It is approximately a $30,000 investment to train a rescue to become a service dog that can provide support to veterans. Over the course of a month, all 18 Wag N’ Wash locations raised more than $7,000 for the cause with an additional $5,000 matched donation from Wag N’ Wash.

“One of the values of Wag N’ Wash is “We Serve”. Freedom Service Dogs is an incredible organization that perfectly aligns with this value by unleashing the potential of dogs by transforming them into custom trained, life-changing assistance dogs for our veterans. It is an honor that that IFA recognized our corporate and franchise teams for the hard work they put into raising money for this cause,” said Rob Flanagan, president of Wag N’ Wash Natural Pet Food & Grooming. “We are excited to launch the second annual Round Up for Freedom Service Dogs in November and continue spreading awareness for the work Freedom Service Dogs does every day to support our veterans.”

Each year the IFA hosts an awards ceremony to recognize the leaders who are giving back to move communities forward and inspiring their peers in the franchisee community to do the same. The “Support Our Veterans” award recognizes a company whose charitable or community support program has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help the men and women who have served the U.S. military, and positively impacted their local community along the way. For each winner, the IFA makes a donation of $1,000 for silver award winners and $5,000 for gold award winners to the nonprofit the charitable program was in support of.

In celebration of Veteran’s Day on November 11, Wag N’ Wash is rolling out its second annual Round Up for Freedom Service Dogs campaign. Throughout the month of November, all Wag N’ Wash locations will be asking customers to donate during check out. The money raised will go directly to Freedom Service Dogs.

Since Wag N’ Wash opened its first store in Colorado Springs in 1999, the company is the leading place for pet guardians to find quality goods and services for their pet companions. It is the only pet retailer that offers a self-wash station, full-service grooming, a bakery and pet food.

About Freedom Service Dogs

Freedom Service Dogs (FSD), based in Englewood, Colorado, was founded by Michael and PJ Roche who transformed it from a two-person organization to one of the leading service dog training organizations in the country. As FSD expanded, the Roches recognized a need for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan to have additional support as they entered civilian life, leading to the launch of Operation Freedom, a program that provides disabled veterans with trained service dog companies. Since 1987, the organization has graduated hundreds of client-dog teams.
