HomeVestors Lands on Prestigious Dallas 100 for the Eighth Time

The Original “We Buy Ugly Houses” Company Ranks 13th, Continuing Tradition of Entrepreneurial Excellence and Success that Helped Create an Industry

December 03, 2019 // Franchising.com // DALLAS - HomeVestors, known to many as the original “We Buy Ugly Houses®” company, has landed on the annual SMU Cox Dallas 100™ for the eighth year. The company, which now boasts more than 1,100 franchises in 174 markets across the U.S., ranked 13 on the list compiled by the Cox School’s Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship.

“We purchased our 100,000th house this year, further cementing our position as America’s number one homebuyer,” said David Hicks, CEO of HomeVestors®. “The consistency of our growth, as demonstrated by our eighth appearance on this list, shows not only the strength of our model, but also the entrepreneurial spirit of the thousand-plus franchisees around the country that represent our brand every day by improving houses, and ultimately, communities.”

The Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship ranks the top 100 Dallas privately held entrepreneurial companies annually based on percentage growth and absolute dollar growth over the previous three years. The Institute, working with the accounting firm BKD LLP CPAs and Advisors, examined sales from hundreds of companies for 2016 to 2018, the last year for which complete data is available.

“These companies are the unsung heroes of the Dallas-area economy,” said Simon Mak, the Linda A. and Kenneth R. Morris Endowed Director of the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship at SMU Cox. “They are entrepreneurial dynamos, creating products and/or services that in turn create jobs and generate income for their owners, not to mention the millions of dollars they collectively contribute to our economy. For almost three decades now, it has been our honor at the Caruth Institute of Entrepreneurship to shine the spotlight on the critical role of entrepreneurship in the DFW economy. Congratulations to this year’s Dallas 100 honorees.”

This year’s winning companies collectively generated 3.5 billion in sales in 2018 and grew at an average annual growth rate of 82 percent from 2016 to 2018. Together, they created almost 7,000 jobs in that same period. HomeVestors has continued to grow using an approach that has yielded significant growth for years, even as thousands of other investors have entered and exited the market. Growing from only 177 franchises in 2009, HomeVestors welcomed its 1,000th franchise less than 10 years later in 2018.

Houses HomeVestors® franchisees purchase are generally rehabbed, then sold or held as investment properties, helping raise real estate values in the markets served and drive community revitalization. When they join the organization, franchisees are trained and supported by the company, mentored by seasoned Development Agents, and then supported with qualified leads.
