This Indiana Entrepreneur Cuts a Path to Success with Meineke Car Care Centers, Opening His Seventh Store in the Indianapolis Area

March 18, 2020 // // CHARLOTTE - Meineke Car Care Centers is pleased to announce the opening of a new store in Kokomo, IN. This is the seventh store for multi-unit owner Scott Martin.

Anyone who knew Martin as a youngster may have seen evidence of the entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic needed to be successful. At 13, he began mowing lawns in his neighborhood. By 18, he had grown his business to more than 100 customers with several employees. While attending college, he grew the lawn maintenance business to 10 employees and generated $500,000 a year in revenue.

Fast-forward through other ventures, Martin eventually began working as a manager at a Meineke center owned by one of his former lawn care customers, with an option to buy. In 2010 Martin took ownership of his first store in the Indianapolis area. In 2011 he expanded to three stores and added three more locations in 2017.

When asked about the challenges of being a multi-unit owner, Martin had this to offer.

“With one store, I was directly involved in all interactions,” said Martin. “The move from one to three stores represented a personal challenge of finding good people and then letting them manage and make decisions, rather than me trying to still be involved in every interaction. Once I grew in my skills as an owner, further growth of the organization became easier because I now had the system and the infrastructure in place to take advantage of the economies of scale.”

Martin’s six stores generated revenue of close to $5 million last year. He believes the Indianapolis market has potential for more stores and has plans for further expansion, with a goal of one day reaching $10 million.

“There are many benefits of being a Meineke owner,” said Martin. “The Meineke brand name and great reputation brings a certain percentage of people in the door. Having a national network of owners to communicate with is also a big benefit. Franchisees also have access to a Franchise Business Consultant that provides the hands-on instore support and consulting that makes it easier for multi-unit owners to successfully manage their business.”

From starting a successful lawn business at a young age to becoming a multi-unit franchise owner, Martin has cut a path to success with Meineke Car Care Centers.
