June 25, 2020 // Franchising.com // MECHANICSBURG, PA - Duck Donuts, known for serving Warm, Delicious and Made To Order!® donuts, announced today the grand opening of its first Puerto Rico franchise location is set for Wednesday, June 24, at 9 a.m. Owned by Jorge Ramos, Juan Carlos Piñero, and Delmarie Ayala, the store is located in Plaza Río Hondo, Bayamón. This store marks the first of three Duck Donuts franchise locations coming to Puerto Rico, in partnership with Ramos, Piñero, and Ayala, over the next three years.
To celebrate the opening, the first three customers in line will become part of the Quack Club and receive one dozen free donuts per month for a year.
Business partners Ramos, Piñero, and Ayala have spent their careers in Puerto Rico. They join the Duck Donuts family with decades of experience in the engineering, construction, project management, and real estate fields. The trio met at University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, from which they all graduated in 1998.
“A friend told us about a warm, delicious donut with maple icing and chopped bacon that got our attention and we fell in love with the concept of made-to-order cake donuts with your choice of coatings, toppings and drizzles,” said Ramos. “We knew this was a brand that would make a great addition to Puerto Rico’s welcoming and family-friendly culture”
The 1,289 sq. ft. retail store reflects the franchise’s newly redesigned iconic beach theme and family-friendly atmosphere. In addition to donuts, the Bayamón location will also serve highest quality Puerto Rican coffee from Gustos Coffee Co, donut breakfast sandwiches, donut sundaes, select retail items, and more.
Duck Donuts and the franchise group are committed to customer and employee safety as Puerto Rico recovers from COVID-19. Employees will wear face coverings, high-touch surfaces will be frequently sanitized, and the store will remain in compliance with all local and federal cleanliness guidelines. Customers are encouraged to order online in advance and can choose to pick up their orders curbside or in the store. Fifty percent of in-store seating has been removed and customers will be asked to wear face mask and maintain a 6-foot distance from one another. Like all Duck Donuts, pickup orders will be made to order and handed over warm to customers at their scheduled pickup time.
Duck Donuts specializes in warm, delicious and made-to-order donuts. Upon entering the store, customers are welcomed with the aroma of warm, light vanilla cake donuts. Customers can create their own donut combination by choosing from a variety of coatings, toppings and drizzles, including traditional favorites such as chocolate icing with sprinkles and more adventurous creations such as maple icing with bacon. For Puerto Rico, Duck Donuts has created a new combination as tribute to the classic flavors of guava and cream cheese. The family-friendly stores offer a viewing area where children and adults alike can watch their donuts being made.
“We’re excited to partner with Jorge, Juan Carlos, and Delmarie to bring Duck Donuts to Puerto Rico,” said Russ DiGilio, founder and CEO of Duck Donuts Franchising Company. “We look forward to becoming part of the Puerto Rican community and to seeing our restaurants become a favorite destination for celebrations and everyday treats.”
Donuts at this location will be made fresh to order 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
About Duck Donuts
Duck Donuts was founded in 2006 by Russ DiGilio in Duck, North Carolina. His intention? To solve a family vacation problem: “Our family wanted a place to buy warm, delicious, made-to-order donuts, and when we couldn’t find one, we decided to start our own.”
By 2011, Duck Donuts had expanded to four Outer Banks locations and the donut business was so successful that DiGilio was continuously approached about franchise opportunities by fans who begged for a Duck Donuts in their community. The first franchise opened in Williamsburg, Virginia, in 2013, and there are now 94 open franchise locations and more than 145 additional contracts in 26 states and three countries.
