Local Couple Brings the Heat to Riverside, California with First Firehouse Subs® Restaurant

July 16, 2020 // Franchising.com // RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Firehouse Subs® announces the grand opening of its first location in Riverside, California at 10080 Magnolia Avenue. The restaurant will open its doors to the public on Thursday, July 16 under the ownership of Firehouse Subs Franchisees Ilene and Michael Moss. Firehouse Subs serves premium meats and cheeses steamed and piled high on a toasted sub roll, served “Fully Involved®” with fresh produce and condiments.

This is the second Firehouse Subs restaurant for the Mosses, who opened their first restaurant in Menifee in February 2019. Michael and Ilene started their journey with Firehouse Subs after extensive backgrounds in the restaurant industry, and searched to find a brand that embodied family and community. As parents of two young children, Mya and Grady, the Mosses have found importance in giving back to first responders, and look forward to bringing that to the Riverside community.

“We’re Riverside natives, so being able to connect with our neighbors and first responders through food is really special,” Ilene said. “The arts and innovation in our community is so inspiring to us, and we’re grateful to be located in the center of it all.”

The Firehouse Subs Riverside restaurant will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week, and features online ordering through the Firehouse Subs app or website, call-in phone orders, takeout service at the counter inside and third-party delivery. It will offer in-house catering services to accommodate occasions of all sizes, from office meetings to family gatherings.

The Mosses are dedicated to sharing the brand’s commitment to giving back through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which has granted more than $1.3 million in California. Since March 18, Firehouse Subs restaurants and the Foundation have donated more than 87,000 meals to local first responders, healthcare workers and people in need. A portion of every purchase at any Firehouse Subs in the U.S. benefits the Foundation, helping achieve its mission of providing lifesaving equipment, funding and education to first responders and public safety organizations across the country.

Founded by former firefighting brothers Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, the restaurant décor reflects the founding family’s decades of fire and police service with gear and photos donated by local fire departments. The Riverside restaurant boasts a custom, hand-painted mural by Chief Mural Artist Joe Puskas, which pays homage to the birthplace of California’s citrus industry. The mural is set 100 years ago when the industry began, and features a smudge pot which kept citrus trees from frosting, and a chemical fire engine keeping watch. Since the opening of the first Firehouse Subs in 1994, Puskas and his team have painted more than 1,175 murals from his studio at Firehouse Subs Headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla.

Firehouse Subs serves a variety of hot specialty subs, piled high with premium meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh daily in-restaurant and steamed together to bring out the ingredients’ natural flavors, served “Fully Involved®” with fresh produce and condiments on a toasted sub roll. In addition to its signature subs, the restaurant offers a variety of catering options from sandwich and dessert platters to salads and snacks to fuel any occasion.

In 2005, the Firehouse Subs founders established the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, lifesaving equipment and educational opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations. The 501(c)(3) Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has granted more than $51 million to hometown heroes in 49 states, Puerto Rico and Canada. Each restaurant recycles five-gallon pickle buckets, available to guests for a $3 donation to the Foundation. Donation canisters on register counters explain the nonprofit’s mission and collect spare change, while the Round Up Program allows guests to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar. All funds raised benefit the Foundation.
