Global Tutoring Company Launches Pod-Learning Program Ahead of Back-to-School

One-to-one Tutoring Program Expands Services; Offering Routine, Structure, and Oversight to Groups of Students Amid the Pandemic

August 20, 2020 // Franchising.com // Toronto, Ontario - As a solution to the pitfalls of virtual learning and the safety concerns ahead of returning to schools in the fall, pod-based learning - or micro-schools - has come to command the education space. In response to a growing demand from parents, who will use pod-learning to supplement their district’s back-to-school plans, Tutor Doctor has created a pod-based tutoring program that provides safe and structured learning, either online or in-person, to a group of two to six students.

Tutor Doctor will offer its pod-learning program systemwide to meet the growing need expressed by families across the globe. The goal of the pod is to bring together students based on age and grade level to provide oversight and support through the role of an educator while helping fill learning gaps due to virtual programing or reduced in-class instruction time. Tutor Doctor territories in Texas, California, New Jersey, and Florida have already been fielding demand from parents as the school year looms.

“The pod learning style is so unique due to its ability to provide social interaction that is missed in a large virtual-based setting, and for the structure it brings to an innately unpredictable and stressful school year,” said Frank Milner, President of Tutor Doctor. “This takes the onus off of parents to be a teacher alongside their roles as nurturer and provider, while offering high level support and instruction to students as they navigate the 2020 school year.”

The group method has built up steam due to a number of proactive parents who expressed the need for additional support ahead of the virtual or hybrid school year. After the abrupt end to children’s spring semester due to COVID-19, parents know how tough it is to balance full-time work schedules and keep tabs on their children’s education.

Tutor Doctor’s pod-learning program will be offered both in-person and online and meet anywhere from 2-4 times a week, which will be planned around the students’ actual class schedules.

“At Tutor Doctor, we pride ourselves on offering 1:1 instruction, where the tutor really spends time getting to know the student and their individual needs,” Milner stated. “The pods function in a similar way, as a small group of students are gaining supplemental and personalized learning in a flexible work environment where an educator will help them build on their strengths, and fill in missing learning gaps.”

Tutor Doctor has increased its online efforts amid the pandemic, seeing a 120 percent increase in demand as shelter-in-place began to take effect in March. Even in the online space, a tutor must know how to connect with their student, tailoring their program while continuously providing guidance and valuable learning skills.

Parents will be in charge of organizing the select group of students who make up the pod prior to the first tutoring session. From there, educators will help with everything from reinstruction of classroom curriculum, homework help, and overcoming struggles with virtual learning all at a pace that works for the individual students.
