Fleet Feet® Announces Reopening of Store in Gaithersburg

Running retailer to welcome customers back in mid-December

November 23, 2020 // Franchising.com // CARRBORO, N.C. - Fleet Feet announces today the planned reopening of its Gaithersburg, Maryland, location effective mid-December. Ben Sessions, an avid runner, coach and seasoned retail professional, will oversee all operations of the store, located in Kentlands Market Square at 200 Market Street.

“Fleet Feet has been a mainstay of the Gaithersburg running community since 2005, and we’re so pleased to reopen during a time that’s seen so many people either return to, or begin, running for the first time,” says Robyn Goby, vice president of development for Fleet Feet. “Ben has been involved with the sport for many years as an athlete and coach. His dedication to understanding and caring for customers, as well as his focus on building a culture of highly energetic, highly engaged employees, will help Fleet Feet pick right back up where it left off in terms of serving the great Gaithersburg running community.”

Originally from South Carolina, Sessions spent five years working at a run specialty store in Greenville. He joined Fleet Feet’s Leadership Development Program in January of this year, which has allowed him to train on all aspects of the business. Sessions ran competitively while in college, and now serves as running coach and co-host of his own running podcast.

“Running provided me with the first sense of belonging I have ever had and changed my life,” says Sessions. “Through Fleet Feet, I have the opportunity to amplify the impact running can make on individuals and communities while providing every person who walks through the door the solutions, inspiration, and community they need to achieve their goals. I’m so grateful for the privilege and opportunity to continue the Fleet Feet tradition in Gaithersburg, and I look forward to greeting, meeting, and helping the community.”

Fleet Feet Gaithersburg will open with the brand’s exclusive and recently updated personalized outfitting experience, fit id®, which in September, added dynamic pressure mapping to its existing 3D foot scanning technology. The pressure mapping allows outfitters to measure the unique foot path and weight distribution of each foot as customers walk across a three-and-a-half-foot long force plate. These measurements give Fleet Feet the ability to offer individualized footwear solutions through Superfeet’s ME3D line of personalized insoles.

Fleet Feet Gaithersburg will reopen roughly four months after the location’s previous owner temporarily shuttered operations due to adverse business conditions stemming from the pandemic. The store will reopen with enhanced safety and cleaning procedures in place. For more information, and to stay up-to-date on upcoming events and plans, visit the store’s Facebook page or online. Curbside pickup and in-store appointments are available via the store’s website.
