Alabama Kayak Business Expands with Franchising

Local store plans to bring more kayak fishing stores in 2021

January 13, 2021 // Franchising.com // Pelham, Alabama - The Yak Shak announced today that they will begin offering franchise store licenses this year. The company, which launched its storefront in November of 2019, saw an increased demand for outdoor activities amid the pandemic.

“We always knew we wanted to franchise our concept, but after being approached by interested investors we knew we needed to get the process started,” says co-owner Allen Norris.

More access to premium kayak brands and avoiding high freight costs are a few of the reasons the company has decided to franchise. “By having more locations across the country, we hope to make it easier for people to find great kayaks locally,” adds Norris.

The Yak Shak carries a selection of kayaks from Feelfree, 3 Waters Kayaks, Jonny Boats USA, Seastream, and NuCanoe, as well as Badfish stand-up paddleboards. Additionally, they have fishing and clothing brands such as AFTCO, Heybo, Big Bite Baits, Lowrance, and many more.

The legal franchise documents for The Yak Shak were administered by Duell Law in Birmingham, Alabama. “We truly can’t thank Richard and the team at Duell Law enough for their support over the past five months to help us launch our franchise,” Norris says. “They made the process extremely streamlined and are very professional.”
