Retired Aerospace Engineer to Start New Chapter in Career

Kumon of Lomita Is Officially Open and Accepting New Enrollments

January 15, 2021 // Franchising.com // LOMITA, Calif - Math has been a constant in Trung Tran’s career. As an aerospace engineer for multiple decades, high level math was a tool used in his day-to-day calculations. Although Tran felt fulfilled after retiring, he hoped to someday be able to use his knowledge and experience to teach in some form.

Today, he has accomplished that goal. As the new owner and Instructor of Kumon Math and Reading Center of Lomita, Tran is excited to help instill a love and understanding of the subjects in area students.

“I was so inspired to help Lomita students develop confidence and independence - not just in math and reading, but in everyday life,” said Trung Tran, owner and Instructor of Kumon of Lomita. “I know that the program works from my own children’s success in college and beyond, and am excited to see how many area children I can spread the benefits to.”

Tran’s own children benefitted from Kumon years ago. His familiarity with the program, paired with his experience in math and desire to teach, made him a great candidate to open his own center.

Kumon is a supplemental education program that aims to unlock students’ full potential by increasing academic independence, confidence, and study skills. Through daily worksheet study, students enrolled in Kumon often end up mastering material far beyond grade level.

“Lomita now has their own Kumon Center, so that students no longer have to travel to attend classes - and I couldn’t be more excited to spread the word,” said Tran. “My goal is that our residents take advantage of this unique opportunity for our youth to reach their full potential through Kumon, right here in town.”
