Duck Donuts® Celebrates 100th Shop Opening Milestone

February 24, 2021 // Franchising.com // MECHANICSBURG, PA - Duck Donuts recently celebrated its milestone 100th store opening on Feb. 20, in Louisville, the first shop to open in Kentucky. Duck Donuts Founder and CEO Russ DiGilio joined the Louisville team and city representatives for a commemorative ribbon-cutting ceremony at the store.
To celebrate the grand opening, the first guest in line received a Duck Donuts gift basket that included a free one dozen donuts per month for a year, and every 100th guest received a free half dozen donuts. In sticking with the theme of 100, all Duck Donuts Rewards members also were rewarded 100 bonus points.
“Our family-owned donut shop has come a long way in 14 years and we’re excited to celebrate the 100-store milestone with our newest owner in Louisville,” says DiGilio. “It’s been amazing to see the love for our warm delicious, and made-to-order donuts spread throughout the country and we’re proud that we’ve been able to support our local communities along the way through our Quack Gives Back program and various other charitable initiatives.”
Russ DiGilio, founder and CEO of Duck Donuts, launched the now-iconic donut brand in 2007 in the town of Duck in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and began franchising in 2013. Despite the foodservice industry challenges in 2020, the emerging brand opened 21 new shops, including its first United Arab Emirates location in Dubai.
As a core value for the brand, menu innovation continues to be at the forefront of the company’s strategic initiatives. In addition to donuts, Duck Donuts locations serve its signature coffee blends - Riptide Roast, Light House Blend, and Sunset Pier Decaf - espresso, donut breakfast sandwiches, donut sundaes, new menu items including frozen beverages and milkshakes, select retail items, and more.
Duck Donuts specializes in warm, delicious and made-to-order donuts. Upon entering the store, customers are welcomed with the aroma of warm, light vanilla cake donuts. Customers can create their own donut combination by choosing from a variety of coatings, toppings, and drizzles, including traditional favorites such as chocolate icing with sprinkles and more adventurous creations such as maple icing with bacon. The family-friendly stores offer a viewing area where children and adults alike can watch their donuts being made.
“Today, our shops employ more than 3,000 people across the country, we’ve helped 70 franchisees follow their dream of owning their own Duck Donuts, and we continue to sprinkle happiness to those who enjoy the unique Duck Donuts experience,” DiGilio continued.
