The UPS Store Opens New Locations on SDSU Campus
August 26, 2021 // Franchising.com // Two new The UPS Store locations are now open on the campus of San Diego State University (SDSU) for 2021-22 fall semester. In addition to supporting retail customers with a variety of services including printing, faxing, scanning and notary, The UPS Store will serve as the central mail center for students living on campus, handling all incoming mail and packages for thousands of students. For the university, leveraging The UPS Store for campus mail management helps reduce costs while increasing the convenience and level of service to students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community.
The UPS Store at San Diego State University will utilize state-of-the-art software for processing, tracking and retrieving packages and mail, significantly reducing the time and expense needed to receive, sort, store and retrieve student packages at each dorm. These stores will also be the first university locations nationwide to unveil the completely new and modern retail design for The UPS Store.
Consolidating mail and package fulfillment through The UPS Store also helps reduce the school’s carbon footprint and increases safety on campus by decreasing the number of trucks driving around campus every day delivering mail to more than 20 individual dorm mailrooms. When mail and packages arrive, regardless of the carrier, they will be electronically logged, sorted and safely stored. The UPS Store will notify students by email or text that their mail and/or package is ready for pick up. Students then simply walk into The UPS Store and type their unique notification code into a tablet, which sends a message to store associates who bring the item(s) to the student – with the entire process taking only 25 and 30 seconds. This should help reduce the number of trips that students have to take to retrieve their mail and packages.
Complete Printing Services
Additionally, The UPS Store at San Diego State University will be a complete digital print production facility, a one-stop print shop offering a wide range of professional printing services and options for students, staff and faculty. Services include wide-format printing for banners and posters, digital printing with scanning and archiving, offset printing for brochures and business cards, and print finishing services like binding and laminating.
The UPS Store at SDSU is also helping to streamline move-in and move-out for college students. During campus move-in, students can have their items shipped to The UPS Store prior to their arrival on campus. This home-to-home service enables students to have boxes sent in advance to their home. During the move-out period, The UPS Store can ensure that a student’s items are professionally prepped for travel by plane or car, while also providing appropriate shipping supplies like cushioning material and moving boxes.
Locally Owned and Operated
Burke Jones is President and CEO of University Business Services, LLC, and franchise owner of the two The UPS Store SDSU campus locations. Jones is a San Diego entrepreneur who has owned six other The UPS Store locations in the San Diego area. Jones said, “The UPS Store locations at San Diego State University are a powerful model for working together. Small business, big business and the community working together to regroup, recover and move forward. Service to the community is very important to the university, providing opportunity and services to help support small and start-up businesses in the growing neighborhood surrounding SDSU. We are very excited about this new, unique location on the San Diego State University campus.”
The UPS Store provides an integral service for the university with mail services, fast and easy package pick-up as well as added benefits like package lockers, full service and large-format printing, as well as solutions to support campus move-in and storage during breaks. The on-campus locations also serve the broader community with services like notary, passport photos, printing, binding, lamination, packing, shipping and shredding.
