FirstLight Home Care of Greater Charlotte a Teepa Snow Positive Approach® to Care Designated Organization

Company is one of only three home care organizations in the world with this designation

August 30, 2022 // Franchising.com // CHARLOTTE, NC - FirstLight Home Care of Greater Charlotte has announced it is now a Positive Approach® to Care (PAC) designated organization, meaning it is aligned with the PAC philosophy and techniques for dementia care and applies these skills consistently with its staff.

The Charlotte office is one of only three home care organizations in the world - and the only local office in the national FirstLight Home Care franchise network - that has this designation.

Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach® to Care (PAC) is a nationally recognized dementia care training program that enhances the life and relationships of those living with brain change by providing services to increase awareness and improve dementia care skills. The goal is to create a supportive, positive environment for those living with dementia by focusing on what they can still do instead of what they can no longer do. This is done by using proper verbiage, approach and techniques to allow them to maintain as much freedom and dignity as possible.

“Our organization has taken steps to change the culture of dementia care that we offer,” said Ken Fleming, Owner of FirstLight Home Care of Greater Charlotte. “We are beyond excited and proud of our team, and we look forward to continuing the education of our employees and our clients on how to approach caring for people with dementia in a positive way.”

In accordance with the guidelines for Organization Designation provided by Positive Approach to Care®, FirstLight Home Care of Greater Charlotte is growing its team of PAC Certified Independent Professionals to guide learning and skills. Rebecca Rushing, RN, is the trainer who conducts educational sessions and creates content for multiple levels of dementia training sessions for the staff. Sara Jackson, Care Coordinator, is a coach, and she supports the team by helping them master the skills taught in the training sessions. She helps conduct the classes and offers in-home support for caregivers when they’re working with clients.

FirstLight Home Care of Greater Charlotte provides companion care and personal care services to individuals who need support in the place they call home, including seniors, veterans, adults with disabilities, those recuperating and individuals living with dementia. Professional caregivers help with many needs, from companionship, transportation, and household tasks to individual responsibilities like bathing and personal hygiene. Care services are provided to the Greater Charlotte area, including Huntersville, Pineville and Matthews, NC, Fort Mill, Rock Hill and Indian Land, SC.
