First Generation Immigrant and Healthcare Veteran to Expand Brand’s Oregon Presence

The company is owned and operated by Carolyne and Nickson Achienza, first-generation immigrants from Kenya who love community and regularly give back to marginalized communities in their home country.

Headquartered at 8215 SW Tualatin-Sherwood Road, Suite 200 in Tualatin, the company serves residents of Tualatin, Tigard, West Linn, WilsonVille, Sherwood, King City and its environs. SYNERGY HomeCare of Tualatin provides clients with a wide variety of non-medical care options, from companion care to personal care to specialized care for people with chronic health conditions or recovering from illness or surgery.

The Achienzas saw a growing need in their community for these services, particularly among Baby Boomers.

Carolyne has spent the last 15 years in the healthcare industry, serving in different roles. After receiving her master’s degree in healthcare management, Achienza spent over 10 years in leadership positions at two nationally recognized healthcare organizations. There, she led her teams in guiding innovation, operations, project management, and employee training and development which eventually prepared her to run her own company.

Outside of work, the Achienzas also spend a significant amount of time serving and organizing community, initiating programs, and leading with courage, both in the Portland area as well as in villages in Kenya. They have founded a non-profit international ministry, created programs of sustainability in the community, and led several other health and wellness efforts.

The time that the Achienzas have spent giving back to these communities is what eventually inspired them to pursue ownership of a SYNERGY HomeCare franchise. In this capacity, they can finally fully dedicate themselves to a career of service, which has been their natural calling throughout their adult life. Their goal is to become a staple support system for vulnerable populations in their area.

SYNERGY HomeCare of Tualatin focuses on multiple types of in-home care. In addition to providing older people with assistance in maintaining their independence, Caroylne and Nickson also want to provide childcare, backup care and assistance to expecting families.

According to Carolyne, the majority of their clients lack a local support system and need to rely on caregivers for assistance cooking, shopping, running errands, light housekeeping or going for walks. Some even require personal care such as help bathing, dressing or using the toilet.

“Distance should not keep adult children from being in tune with their aging loved ones to help them maintain their quality of life while aging in place, something that can be accomplished through local in-home care,” Carolyne explained.
