Synergy Homecare Announces Newest Chicago-based Franchise

October 12, 2023 // Franchising.com // TEMPE, Ariz. – SYNERGY HomeCare has a new Illinois-based location, SYNERGY HomeCare of Northwest Chicago.

The company is owned and operated by Jarrod and Tamara Barker, two healthcare professionals with deep knowledge of the industry and a passion for serving others.

Headquartered at 2600 W. Montrose Ave in Chicago, the company will primarily serve residents located in the northwest region of the city from Jefferson Park to Roscoe Village. SYNERGY HomeCare of Northwest Chicago provides clients with a wide variety of non-medical care options, from companion care and personal care, to specialized care for people living with chronic health conditions or recovering from illness or surgery. SYNERGY HomeCare’s comprehensive hospital-to-home, ConciergeCare program plays a critical role in helping clients focus on their safety, healing and recovery.

With extensive backgrounds in healthcare, the Barkers recognized a growing need in their community for home care services, particularly among Baby Boomers. U.S. Census statistics show that 10,000 Baby Boomers are turning 65 every day and that by 2030, there will be more than 70 million people over the age of 65. A recent AARP survey found that 90% of those 65+ report they want to remain in their current residence for as long as possible.

Chicago is also home to a densely populated senior demographic with a high number of medical facilities and healthcare providers.

Tamara has worked as a registered nurse for nearly 20 years. Her mother is a home care worker with 40 years of experience who has passed on to her daughter a love and dedication to caring for others. After earning her nursing degree, Tamara spent many years working in inner- city hospitals throughout Indianapolis and Chicago.

Tamara is also a published children’s book author. In addition, she and Jarrod also own a successful pop-up food pantry in Chicago called Blessed By Barkers, which has played a major role in helping the local community battle food insecurity since 2018.

Jarrod is a practicing Emergency Medicine physician who also works as an assistant clinical professor in the local school of medicine. He also serves as the Director of EMS services at Vista Health. Jarrod has served on a number of boards and committees dedicated to elevating students with an interest in health and medicine.

“The Barker mantra is that there is always time to serve,” says Tamara. “No matter what’s going on in our lives, we understand that people need us and we put that priority first. Although we lack the traditional sales experience that many other business owners prioritize, we understand that this is a relationship-based industry and that’s an area in which we excel. We don’t want to clock in and out like a normal nine-to-five job – we want to become vital pieces of our clients’ lives.”

“We’re always looking to learn and then pay that wisdom forward,” says Jarrod. “While I’m excited to meet and interact with all of our new clients, I also can’t wait to provide our caregivers with the tools to improve the lives of others. At heart I’m an educator and a caregiver, so this is really the best of both worlds for me.”

SYNERGY HomeCare focuses on multiple types of in-home care. In addition to providing older people with assistance in maintaining their independence, the Barkers also plan to provide childcare, backup care, and assistance to expecting families.

According to Tamara, the majority of her clients lack a local support system and need to rely on caregivers for assistance with activities such as cooking, shopping, running errands, light housekeeping, or going for walks. Some even require personal care such as help with bathing, dressing, or using the toilet.

“Distance should not keep adult children from being in tune with their aging loved ones to help them maintain their quality of life while aging in place, something that can be accomplished through local in-home care,” Tamara explained.
