Sylvan Learning Awards Territory to Loyal Employee in Texas

March 22, 2024 // Franchising.com // BALTIMORE - Sylvan Learning transferred ownership of its S. Fort Worth, Texas, center to Trey Watten, a minority owner of the center since 2018.

Prior to joining Sylvan in 2014 as an employee, Watten was an accountant and a minor league baseball player. He formed a strong working relationship with S. Fort Worth’s former franchisees and became minority owner in 2018. Now, he will step into full ownership.

“I’ve always had a passion for education and entrepreneurship, but I knew I didn’t want a career in the classroom,” said Watten. “When I started with Sylvan, I realized franchise ownership was the best of both worlds. I could own a sustainable business that will positively impact my local community. I’m grateful for the mentorship and support I’ve had to confidently step into ownership of this center.”

Sylvan Learning has been producing proven results for students for more than four decades. Now, as students and educators nationwide work to close the gap from pandemic-related learning loss, its resources are in more demand than ever.

“The South Fort Worth center is in great hands with Trey,” said Jeff Stephenson, Vice President of Franchise Development at Sylvan. “He has fully immersed himself in Sylvan and sought out mentors and support when he needed it, and because of that, we’re very confident in his ability to seamlessly step into the new role as full owner.”
