New Wild Birds Unlimited Franchise Opens in Macon, Georgia

June 20, 2024 // Franchising.com // Macon, Ga. - Wild Birds Unlimited is excited to announce the opening of its newest franchise location in Macon, Georgia. Located at 5982 Zebulon Road, this store marks another successful conversion from an independent bird supply store to a Wild Birds Unlimited franchise. This new venture is proudly owned by Susan Van Houten, her husband David, and their son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Christina Sipes, emphasizing the family-oriented nature of this business.

Susan Van Houten, a seasoned professional with a background in corporate America, decided to embrace a joyful, fulfilling career change. She is a multi-unit owner with Wild Birds Unlimited locations in Athens, Augusta, and now Macon.

“Opening our first Wild Birds Unlimited store in 2017 was a turning point for me. It wasn't just about starting a business; it was about finding a pursuit that brought joy and daily mental engagement,” Susan explained.

The decision to open in Macon was inspired by an email from a previous owner looking to sell their bird supply store. Seeing an opportunity to expand their passion for birds and community engagement, the family decided to take on this new challenge.

“The joy of bringing people and nature together is at the heart of why we do what we do. It's about loving what you do and who you work with — and that passion carries over to our customers,” Susan stated.

Paul Pickett, CDO/EVP of Franchising at Wild Birds Unlimited, expressed his excitement about the new location: “Susan and her family exemplify the spirit of our brand. Their dedication to community, passion for nature, and commitment to excellence are what make Wild Birds Unlimited a leader in the industry. We are thrilled to see them open another store and bring our mission to more communities.”

Susan's role in the business has evolved over the years. Initially involved in every aspect of the store operations, she now focuses on guidance, support, and troubleshooting, utilizing the strengths of her capable management team. This strategic leadership allows her to continue developing the business while maintaining the quality and service standards that customers expect from Wild Birds Unlimited.
