Duo of Healthcare Veterans Bring Synergy Homecare to El Paso
February 06, 2025 // Franchising.com // Tempe, Ariz. – SYNERGY® HomeCare has announced its first location in westernmost Texas, SYNERGY HomeCare of West El Paso.
The company is owned and operated by Alejandro Armenta and Karla Saldivar, who both graduated with degrees from El Paso Community College in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, which is the same field where both have spent the past ten years of their careers.
The company assists all residents of El Paso County. The duo and their team of caregivers will provide a wide variety of non-medical, in-home care services, from companion care to personal care and respite care.
Both Saldivar and Armenta spent significant time working in El Paso’s medical community, where they noticed the growing need for these services, particularly among Baby Boomers. U.S. Census statistics show that 10,000 Baby Boomers are turning 65 every day and that by 2030, there will be more than 70 million people over 65. According to the AARP, over 80% of this demographic reports wanting to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.
Armenta is a second-generation medical professional. Both of his parents graduated from medical school and then went on to spend their careers in the industry, ultimately inspiring Alejandro to do the same. When attending El Paso Community College, Armenta found his niche in sonography. This field allowed him to interact with a wide range of patients, from newborns to older adults. After spending a few years helping the people of El Paso, Armenta wanted to bring his services to an even wider audience, and decided to spend the next two years working around the U.S. as a “Traveling Sonographer.”
Saldivar is a fellow El Paso Community College graduate, who was originally inspired to pursue the healthcare industry after her father passed away due to a lack of medical assistance when she was young. Saldivar wanted to help prevent this from happening to other El Paso families and enrolled in the same sonography program as Armenta. After graduating in 2014, she spent time working in El Paso hospitals and clinics, before eventually becoming a traveling sonographer herself.
Although both took great pride in their ability to provide a much-needed service, they still felt that they could do more for their immediate community, which is when Armenta and Saldivar started looking into home care.
“We’ve experienced so much during our careers in healthcare, and I believe that it’s provided us with a strong understanding of the importance of being empathetic, patient, and kind during tough times,” said Saldivar. “When someone comes to us for help, they’re typically in a very vulnerable position, which makes it incredibly important to be human, and help them and their family feel as comfortable as possible. Alejandro and I have both gone through difficult times when it comes to our families’ health, and we want others to know that we have their back whenever they experience the same.”
In 2023, the U.S. Census Bureau revealed that El Paso was the second-most popular retirement relocation destination, with over 8% of the country’s retirees listing the city as a preferred destination. With roughly 15% of the population being 65 or older, many residents need to rely on caregivers for additional assistance cooking, shopping, running errands, doing light housekeeping or going for walks. Some even require personal care, such as help with bathing, dressing or using the toilet.
“Our mission is to enhance quality of life by addressing needs both big and small with compassionate, personalized solutions,” said Armenta. “Promoting independence, maintaining dignity, and elevating well-being are always at the top of our minds, and we promise our team will always be there to meet these needs.”
