SYNERGY HomeCare Expands Into Southeast Minnesota

March 05, 2026 // Franchising.com // Tempe, Ariz. – SYNERGY® HomeCare has announced the opening of its newest location in southeast Minnesota, SYNERGY HomeCare in Rochester.

The agency is owned and operated by Joel and Meredith Bell, a husband-and-wife duo of Minnesota natives who decided to venture into the home care industry after watching their own parents navigate the aging process. The Bells are already proud business owners in Rochester, and they hope their latest venture will help them to provide an even more valuable service to their community’s vulnerable residents.

Located in Rochester, the agency proudly serves residents throughout southeast Minnesota, primarily including Olmsted County. The Bells and their team of professional caregivers can assist with a wide variety of non-medical, in-home care services, from companion care to personal care and respite care.

As experienced local business owners, the Bells interact with countless Rochester residents every day. These interactions allowed them to recognize the area’s significantly increasing aging population and their growing need for these caregiving services, particularly among Baby Boomers. U.S. Census statistics show that 10,000 Baby Boomers are turning 65 every day and that by 2030, there will be more than 70 million people over 65. According to the AARP, over 80% of this demographic report wanting to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.

Before venturing into the world of franchising, Meredith graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in agriculture and marketing. She quickly put her degree to use, taking management positions with big box retailers, including Target and Walmart. Shortly after, she and Joel welcomed their three daughters and then transitioned into business ownership with the opening of their own franchised family-operated restaurant.

“The best part of our current job is getting to know our guests and crew members,” said Meredith. “We love to make connections and get to know people from all walks of life. We don’t just care about the business; we care about the little things going on in people’s lives that make them who they are.”

As Meredith and Joel’s parents began to age and require additional assistance, the Bells noticed a similar recurring theme among many of the customers who frequented their restaurant. Time and time again, they heard the overwhelming desire from sandwich generation adults who wanted to keep their parents comfortable in their homes without worrying that their needs would go unmet. That’s when the Bells looked into joining a home care franchise.

“We truly care about the people we serve, and we pride ourselves on our ability to build relationships through considerate communication and customer service,” said Joel. “When we spoke with other SYNERGY HomeCare franchise partners, we felt that same sense of community within them, and it assured us that this would be a network we’d fit into. Now, we can’t wait to support our clients with whatever they need, whether that be providing one hour of care per week or 40.”

Rochester is home to the Mayo Clinic, which sees about 13,700 outpatients per day. Many of these people often require additional help with everyday tasks—from cooking and running errands to doing light housekeeping or keeping up with personal care needs like bathing and dressing.
