Husband-and-Wife Duo of Conover Natives Open New Synergy Homecare Office Serving Alexander, Catawba, and Lincoln Counties

The company is led by the married duo of Angela and Chad Shook, both Newton-Conover High School graduates who have lived and worked in the area throughout their entire lives. Angela was introduced to home care from the years she spent caring for her grandmother, and Chad, a technology and communications expert, was excited to join his wife in providing their hometown with critical, life-improving services.

Headquartered in Conover, the Shooks and their team of compassionate caregivers will assist residents throughout Bethlehem, Catawba, Conover, Claremont, Denver, Hickory, and Sherrills Ford with a wide variety of non-medical, in-home care services, from companion care to personal care and respite care.

Growing up in Newton has allowed the Shooks to notice the growing demand for these services nearby, particularly among Baby Boomers. U.S. Census statistics show that 10,000 Baby Boomers are turning 65 every day and that by 2030, there will be more than 70 million people over 65. According to the AARP, over 80% of this demographic report wanting to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.

For several years, Angela was a primary caregiver for her grandmother and her grandmother’s late husband. In that time, she gained a firsthand understanding of the challenges that arise during the aging process, including health complications, medication changes, and ways to support activities of daily living. While she was providing this care, she was also advancing her career in operations management, serving as an Assistant Store Manager at multiple Lowe’s Home Improvement locations in the area and supporting the setup and opening of new stores. She also held roles as a trainer and sales manager at Blumenthal Arts in uptown Charlotte, a customer service representative for Britax Child Safety, and as a certified phlebotomist.

“Walking alongside my loved ones while they aged gave me a true understanding of how important compassionate, dependable care truly is,” said Angela. “I’ve seen the relief that comes when someone trustworthy shows up, the dignity that is preserved when care is delivered with respect, and the peace of mind that families feel when their loved one is safe and supported at home. Those experiences stayed with me and helped me realize that caregiving is my calling.”

Chad complements Angela’s caregiving prowess with a strong technical and leadership background. Following his graduation from Catawba Valley Community College, also Angela’s alma mater, he pursued a successful career in software engineering. With a certification in machine learning from Cornell University, Chad was able to attain leadership roles with companies such as Fiserv, Bank of America, and, most recently, Charter Communications. Now, he hopes to leverage his technical skills to support Angela as the two establish their family caregiving venture.

“We’re both proud of where we’re from,” said Chad. “Our deep roots in this community directly shaped who we are today. Our shared sense of compassion, responsibility, and service-driven attitudes all reflect the type of people that live there. This is home, and serving our community isn’t just a profession to us; it’s a personal commitment.”

Nearly 20% of all Catawba County residents are aged 65 or older, a figure that continues to rise alongside the growing desire to age in place. Many of these older residents require caregivers for additional assistance cooking, shopping, running errands, doing light housekeeping or going for walks. Some even require personal care, such as help with bathing, dressing or using the toilet.
