Shedding Light on Safety: Winston-Salem Business Illuminates Women’s Shelter at No Cost to Community

May 28, 2026 // Franchising.com // WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Outdoor Lighting Perspectives (OLP) of The Piedmont and Lighting Boss are collaborating to design and install a custom outdoor lighting system at Hawley House, a women’s shelter in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The project details were arranged through Hawley House and the YWCA of Winston-Salem, which referred OLP to the shelter.

The YWCA of Winston-Salem identified Hawley House’s lighting needs and connected OLP of The Piedmont with the shelter. OLP of The Piedmont and Lighting Boss will design and install lighting intended to improve safety and security for residents.

“When we decided to buy our franchise, we knew we wanted it to be more than a business — we wanted it to be a way for our family to give back to this community,” said Rachael Dixon, owner of Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of The Piedmont. “When I heard about Hawley House and what these women are going through, it was an easy decision. Good lighting isn’t just about beauty. It’s about feeling safe when you walk outside at night. That’s something every person deserves.”

Hawley House provides a refuge for women who have experienced domestic violence, homelessness or other crises. A well-lit environment plays a meaningful role in residents’ sense of security, reducing anxiety, deterring threats and signaling that the community stands behind them.
