Entrepreneurial Husband-and-Wife Duo Open the Newest Synergy Homecare Location in Palm Harbor

The company is owned and operated by the husband-and-wife duo of Phil and Erin Shipley, experienced entrepreneurs who have managed a successful restaurant in Los Angeles and a large coffee shop in Las Vegas. Phil’s mother had been living with MS for 30 years, but after her condition worsened, the Shipleys began relying on professional care providers to support the family. After overwhelmingly positive experiences with their caregivers, the Shipleys decided to leave the hospitality industry to provide similar services themselves.

Headquartered at 2708 Alt 19, Suite 602 in Palm Harbor, the Shipleys and their team of compassionate caregivers will assist residents throughout Clearwater, East Lake, Oldsmar, Palm Harbor, Safety Harbor, and Tarpon Springs with a wide variety of non-medical, in-home care services, from companion care to personal care and respite care.

When identifying a possible location to open their new business, the Shipleys noticed a significant growing demand for these services in Pinellas County, particularly among Baby Boomers. U.S. Census statistics show that 10,000 Baby Boomers are turning 65 every day and that by 2030, there will be more than 70 million people over 65. According to the AARP, over 80% of this demographic report wanting to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.

The Shipleys have nearly a decade of business ownership experience. Together, they have owned and operated their restaurant for eight years, while concurrently operating their coffee shop in Las Vegas for three years. During this time, the couple managed to lead both businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic, while retaining their original staff and offering philanthropic support to the communities they served.

“We both come from a hospitality background, where looking after people and creating amazing experiences was our everyday goal,” said Phil. “Home care feels like a natural extension of that. We’re proud to be a source of support for our community, and we’re excited to launch a new business that can make a genuine, lasting difference in people’s lives.”

Both Phil and Erin have personal experience with professional caregiving services. Phil’s mother in England was diagnosed with MS several years ago, and following a bad fall, the family was advised to move her to a nursing home. Instead, they hired a professional caregiver who has been able to turn Phil’s mother’s life around. Not only has she been able to remain at home, but her caregiver has also allowed her to travel and continue doing the things she loves. Since then, the Shipleys have become vocal advocates for professional home care, citing the positive impact it has had on their own family.

Florida is famously a popular destination for retirees and other older residents. Pinellas County alone is home to nearly 100 hospitals and clinics, while almost 30% of residents are between 50 and 69. Many older residents require caregivers for additional assistance cooking, shopping, running errands, doing light housekeeping or going for walks. Some even require personal care, such as help with bathing, dressing or using the toilet.
