SYNERGY HomeCare Continues to Expand in the Bay Area With New Husband-and-Wife-Led Pleasant Hill Location
October 01, 2026 // Franchising.com // Tempe, Ariz. – SYNERGY HomeCare has announced its newest location in the greater Bay Area, SYNERGY HomeCare in Pleasant Hill.
The company is led by the husband-and-wife duo of Keith Smith II and Julie Marie Williams-Smith. The couple, who have been married for over 30 years and have worked in and around Pleasant Hill for over 40 years, have become extremely well connected to their community, thanks to their time working in the local schools and volunteering with its youth sports programs. Now, after witnessing the toll that a dementia diagnosis took on Julie’s father, the pair want to do even more for their community by opening their own caregiving agency.
Headquartered at 2255 Morello Ave, Suite 142 in Pleasant Hill, the Smiths and their team of compassionate caregivers will assist residents throughout Pleasant Hill, Concord, Clayton, Pinole, Hercules, Martinez, Pittsburg, Crockett, Rodeo, and Bay Point. Together, they will provide a wide variety of non-medical, in-home care services, from companion care to personal care and respite care.
Julie, who grew up near Pleasant Hill in Reedley, has witnessed the local demand for at-home services over the years, particularly among Baby Boomers. U.S. Census statistics show that 10,000 Baby Boomers are turning 65 every day and that by 2030, there will be more than 70 million people over 65. According to the AARP, over 80% of this demographic report wanting to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.
Keith, originally from Detroit, relocated to the Golden State nearly 40 years ago to attend the University of California, Davis, where he met Julie, played on the school's football team, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. Following graduation, Keith built a 25-year career in software engineering, where he led teams of fellow engineers and developed cutting-edge software platforms that are still in use by organizations such as LinkedIn and the Department of Defense. Keith also spent multiple years volunteering as a parent coach in Pleasant Hill youth sports.
“I spent 25 years leading engineering teams where reliability, rigor, and accountability weren’t slogans – they were the job,” said Keith. “I’m bringing that same discipline to home care. Our caregivers meet the highest standards, and every care plan is built around the client. Julie and I wanted to pursue caregiving not for financial gain, but instead to do something meaningful. For that reason, she and I hold ourselves personally accountable for every need, and we’ll always be the voice on the other end of the line when you give us a call.”
Julie, a fellow University of California, Davis graduate, spent 20 years as a mathematics teacher, where her career was defined by patience, structure, and genuine investment in others’ growth. Her attention shifted to home care following her father’s diagnosis with dementia, which was particularly difficult for her mother, who was his primary caregiver. While initially reluctant to accept outside help, her mother eventually welcomed caregivers into their home, where the difference was immediately apparent. This opened Julie’s eyes to the good she could do for other families like hers as a professional care provider.
“After a few weeks of receiving caregiving assistance, my mother’s ‘I don’t need anyone coming into my home’ turned into ‘Could they come one more day this week?’” said Julie. “That’s the moment I understood what this work actually does. It doesn’t just help the person with the diagnosis; it gives the family their strength back, one day at a time. We’ve been the family that needed help; now, we’re the ones who can show up for you.”
The Smiths’ service area encompasses a population of roughly 53,000 residents aged 65 and older. While that area is home to major health providers, these residents still stand to benefit from care that extends beyond the walls of a professional facility. Many nearby older adults require assistance with cooking, shopping, running errands, doing light housekeeping, or going for walks. Some even require personal care, such as help with bathing, dressing, or using the toilet.
SYNERGY HomeCare in Pleasant Hill is seeking to add to its team of caregivers. While licensed Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are common candidates, training and certification may be provided to those new to caregiving. Applications can be submitted by contacting the organization or calling the listed phone number: (925) 608-3339.
