Broken Yolk Cafe Names Bodine Berger Director of Franchise Development
- Bodine Berger will serve as the Director of Franchise Development for the San Diego brand
- Former Domino's Pizza executive bets on growth of 42-unit breakfast & brunch franchise
October 22, 2026 // Franchising.com // SAN DIEGO – Broken Yolk Cafe, a category-leading breakfast franchise based out of San Diego, has appointed Bodine Berger to serve as the brand’s Director of Franchise Development. Berger will be the latest addition to a franchise sales team that’s tripled in size over the last 12 months, as the brand sets its sights on record-level development over the next three to five years.
Berger has held development roles with Eggs Up Grill, Steak ‘n Shake, and Domino’s Pizza, and brings a proven track record of forward-thinking strategies that expand franchise footprints. In his role, Berger will broaden the search for franchise candidates on a national scale and support the brand’s continued coast-to-coast growth with new partners.
In recent years, Broken Yolk Cafe’s franchise opportunity has expanded across Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, and Texas, bringing it to a systemwide total of 42 cafe locations. The franchise is also preparing to make its Midwest debut next month, after striking a multi-unit agreement for Lafayette, Indiana, earlier this year, which will bring two cafe locations to the market.
“This brand has spent decades honing its people-first culture, developing an elevated and inclusive cafe experience, and, as a result, its category-leading AUV in the breakfast and brunch space,” Berger said. “I can say from firsthand experience in the breakfast segment, Broken Yolk Cafe is primed to double in size over the next several years, as the immense whitespace that exists for the brand throughout the country continues to attract new partners wanting to explore the two-daypart model.”
Of particular interest to Broken Yolk Cafe’s growth plans is the continued development of its emerging market territories. This includes Boise, Dallas, Indianapolis, Northern California, and Phoenix.
“With franchise development, our focus has always been on quality over quantity,” said John Gelastopoulos, CEO of Broken Yolk Cafe. “While Bodine’s addition to the team won’t alter that approach, his experience is sure to accelerate our expansion into new markets and communities nationwide.”
Broken Yolk Cafe is currently seeking experienced operators to help drive the brand's expansion, and is offering franchise owners a 2.5% royalty reduction for years 1 and 2 on all stores under an area development agreement signed before March 31, 2027.
