The Fastest Wieners Of The West To 'Lick' The Competition At The Largest Ever Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals On July 14

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – Nearly 90 of the Southland's swiftest four-legged athletes will scamper to Los Alamitos Race Course for the 12th Annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals on Saturday, July 14. Wienerschnitzel, the world's largest hot dog chain, is sponsoring the race, a 50-yard dachshund sprint to the finish line. The annual dachshund event is the most highly-attended evening each year at the Los Alamitos Race Course.

After an extensive selection process, 87 dachshunds, the largest number of participants in race history, have been selected to compete in this year's Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals. The event begins with the first pre-trial heat at 6:15 p.m. and will consist of 10 heats. The winner from each trial will advance to the final race to be held at 9:30 p.m.

The winning pooch of the final race will be crowned the "2007 Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals Champion" and collect $1,000 for his or her owner and an official Wienerschnitzel crystal dog collar pendant. Additionally, the winner will receive a trip for two (plus dog) to San Diego, Calif., to compete in the Wienerschnitzel Wiener National Finals on Dec. 27, 2007 at the Holiday Bowl Big Bay Balloon Parade.

Proceeds from the event benefits the Seal Beach Animal Care Center, a non-profit group dedicated to finding homes for stray animals in the Orange County area. This year, Wienerschnitzel and the Los Alamitos Race course plans to reach $150,000 in total donation dollars to the Care Center since it began support in 1996.
