KFC's Softball 'Team for a Year' Can Earn Uniforms, Gear, Meals and More in 'Memorable Team Dinner' Essay Contest

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Game-winning home runs, full-count strikeouts and diving catches are what softball memories are made of, but the memory of a team dinner will win one lucky team a softball grand prize package from KFC, the title sponsor of the World Cup of Softball.

The Amateur Softball Association and KFC are teaming up for the "Be KFC's Team for a Year" contest. The winning team will receive a grand prize which includes custom team uniforms and helmets, bats, balls, backpacks, team photos, a team retreat, a gas card (for away games) and $500 in team dinners from KFC.

Players, coaches, parents and fans can nominate their hometown softball teams by visiting www.kfc.com by Aug. 30, 2007.

"The memories that last a lifetime don't always originate on the field," said James O'Reilly, chief marketing officer for KFC. "Bonding with friends and teammates can also take place in the grandstands, while watching a game on television or while enjoying a KFC meal to celebrate a big win. We want to hear about those team dinners, and we'll award a grand prize to the team with the best story."

The winning team will enjoy a grand slam of a grand prize package, but the person who nominates the team can also win by submitting receipts for team meals purchased at KFC. The company will award gift checks in an amount double the total amount of receipts submitted (up to a maximum value of $2,500) to the person who nominates the winning team.

Fans can visit www.kfc.com and enter the contest, create a personal World Cup softball card, watch video of the USA Softball Team and get softball tips.

A panel of qualified judges will choose the winning essay based equally on the following criteria: Originality, Creativity, Integration of KFC- and ASA-related themes and messages, and Appropriateness to the KFC and ASA Images. Complete rules and additional information can be found at kfc.com. No purchase is necessary.
