Krystal To Open First Restaurant In Northwest Arkansas On Monday, January 28

Free Year's Supply of Krystal Hamburgers to Be Given Away to First "Sackful" of Customers in Line at Krystal Opening in Springdale

January 16, 2008 // Franchising.com // CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Krystal, the fast food icon famous for its fresh, hot, small, square hamburgers craved by a cult-like following all across the South, will open its first restaurant in Northwest Arkansas on Monday, January 28.

To celebrate, Krystal will be giving away a year's supply of free Famous Krystal hamburgers to the first "Sackful" of adults in line when the new restaurant, located at 1503 S. Thompson in Springdale, opens at 10 a.m. In Krystal jargon, a Sackful refers to an order of 12 Famous Krystal hamburgers, and it will be the first 12 adults, ages 18 and older, who will receive the year's supply of the Famous Krystals, or specifically, a Sackful of Krystals every week for an entire year.

And the prizes will not end there. Krystal celebrated its 75th anniversary this past October, making it the South's oldest fast food chain, and in honor of both its 75th anniversary and the Springdale opening, Krystal will be giving away free Krystal T-shirts and special 75th Anniversary Krystal Coke bottles to each of the first 75 customers on opening day. Finally, to keep the celebration going beyond just opening day, Krystal will also reward the first 200 breakfast customers on Tuesday, January 29, with free Krystal Coffee Mugs and free coffee at Krystal for one full year.

Customers wishing to be among the first 75 in line at the opening may line-up 24 hours in advance at the new restaurant.

"Krystal has finally arrived in Northwest Arkansas, and we're celebrating by giving away great prizes to the first 75 people in line on opening day plus our first breakfast customers on day two," said Fred Exum, chief executive officer, The Krystal Company. "Our openings always bring out our most passionate Krystal lovers, with people camping out overnight just so they can be the first to enjoy our little food with the big taste. Based on the e-mails we're receiving, we expect to see the same kind of enthusiasm for our opening in Springdale."

The franchise group, SmitCo Eateries Inc., will operate the new Krystal in Springdale. The company also plans to open additional Krystal restaurants in the Northwest Arkansas area with another location already set to open in Rogers later this year.

"We're thrilled to be bringing Krystal, with all of its signature, big taste menu items, to Springdale," said Brian D. Smith of SmitCo Eateries Inc. "Krystal is truly a fast food icon, and Springdale residents who are familiar with the Krystal brand know it's the one place where they can order great food with the big taste you can't get anywhere else, all at an excellent value. With the closest Krystal location more than 400 miles away, we are delighted to finally give Northwest Arkansas a Krystal all its own."

Featuring both a drive-thru and a walk-up window with canopy-covered outdoor seating for up to 40 customers, the new Krystal restaurant will feature a refreshing, efficient design that pays homage to the traditional Krystal look while showcasing the company's modern, new image. The restaurant will be open 24 hours a day and seven days a week, and like all company-owned Krystal locations, the location will accept payment by credit and debit card and will be an official "Krystal HotSpot," offering free Wi-Fi Internet access to guests seated outside as well as in their vehicles in the drive-thru.

Founded in 1932, Krystal has become a cultural icon and an experience that virtually every man, woman and child in the South has shared. The Krystal brand-and the great food, service, value and setting that it represents-has taken a prominent place in the South's cultural landscape.

While the company's identity has always centered on the Famous Krystal hamburger, Krystal's menu offers a variety of unique menu items that are distinctive in size and shape, served fresh, hot off the grill and perfect anytime of the day. Krystal Sunrisers (small breakfast sandwiches), Krystal Chiks (Krystal-sized chicken sandwiches) and Krystal Pups (small hot dogs offered with chili and cheese) are just a few of the popular menu items that deliver on this promise. Krystal continues to expand its menu variety with breakthrough offerings, including the B.A. Burger, a full size hamburger made from 100% USDA Choice Black Angus Chuck, and Krystal's Breakfast Scramblers line that takes traditional plate breakfasts and stacks them smartly in bowls to be conveniently enjoyed on the go, either scrambled up or layer by layer.

The Krystal Company is the oldest quick service restaurant chain in the South and the second oldest in the United States. The Chattanooga, Tenn.-based company currently has nearly 400 restaurants in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
