Dickey's Barbecue Pit Grows in Cedar Rapids

March 12, 2008 // Franchising.com // - (CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa) – Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants and Iowa State alumnus Dan Disenhouse recently opened a second store in downtown Cedar Rapids. Dickey's, the brand responsible for taking barbecue nationwide, first entered the Cedar Rapids area with Dan's help in 2006 and opened its downtown location this February.

Disenhouse, 31, is a former enlisted machinists mate with the U.S. Navy. He is not only grateful for his time serving our country, but also because his post in San Antonio is what brought him to Dickey's.

"While stationed in San Antonio, I often traveled to Dallas for the weekends. There, I found a Dickey's for dinner and that's where I first began thinking of the food and atmosphere," Disenhouse explained.

After graduating from Iowa State University and St. Ambrose University, Disenhouse remembered that food and atmosphere, and considered a future for his family.

"The market was ready for barbecue," Disenhouse continued. "People often go out for lunch during the week, and eating out on the weekends is huge in Cedar Rapids. I believe variety was needed to help satisfy Cedar Rapids' growing and diverse appetite."

With only a couple other barbecue brands in Cedar Rapids, Disenhouse believes the difference can be found on the plate.

"Without question, the way Dickey's prepares our meats and sides keeps customers coming back," added Disenhouse. "It's authentic southern and smoked barbecue. That's a winning recipe for our guests."

Since opening his store in February, Dickey's has seen a nice following grow in Iowa.

"Under Dan's leadership, we have continued our track record of reaching new markets with success," said President of Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants Roland Dickey, Jr. "With his commitment to customer satisfaction and quick service, I know both of his restaurants will do well."

The first location is 5300 Edgewood Rd, NE and is open 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. all week. The downtown location is at 211 Second St. and is open for lunch from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. For more information, call (319) 362-3260, (319) 373-1728 or visit www.Dickeys.com.
