Krystal Announces San Antonio Expansion

First of the new locations will feature full-service Drive-In and offer expanded line of new menu items, making it the first Krystal restaurant of its kind in Texas

June 17, 2008 // Franchising.com // CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Krystal Company has its sights set on San Antonio as the fast food icon today announced plans to expand its presence in the market with at least two new locations slated to open within the year and even more by the end of 2009. Krystal currently owns and operates one restaurant in the San Antonio market, which is located at 6446 NW Loop 410.

The first of the new Krystal restaurants is scheduled to open this summer and will feature a state-of-the-art drive-in with classic carhop service as well as an expanded line of new menu items, making it the only Krystal location of its kind in the state of Texas. The restaurant design will pay homage to the Krystal drive-ins of the 1950s while injecting a fresh, modern edge into the American classic with in-your-vehicle Wi-Fi Internet access and a jumbo, three-panel menu and digital media board positioned directly in front of each parking space. The restaurant will also feature a drive-thru with advanced ordering technology to ensure accuracy.

In addition to the new design, the new location will showcase Krystal's expanded line-up of new product offerings, making San Antonio the first city outside of Krystal's hometown of Chattanooga to offer the new menu. Guests will not only be able to order the signature "big taste" products that have made Krystal a cultural icon in the South over the past 75 years, but also fresh, new choices such as real fruit smoothies, premium ice cream sundaes and a variety of Krystal-sized toasted sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night.

"We're excited to grow Krystal's presence in San Antonio by bringing more restaurants to the area, the first of which will feature exciting, new product offerings and our new drive-in design," said Fred Exum, chief executive officer, The Krystal Company. "All of our new restaurants will be designed to serve up great food and great hospitality to our San Antonio guests while offering an extraordinary value—not just in price but also in quality."

Along with the first Krystal Drive-In location opening this summer, another restaurant is currently scheduled to open this winter. The restaurant will feature Krystal's latest dine-in and drive-thru design and offer Krystal's heritage line of fresh, hot, small, square menu items including the famous Krystal hamburgers, Krystal Chiks (small, square chicken sandwiches), Krystal Pups (small hot dogs) and a full breakfast line up.
