A Golden Anniversary For Perkins(R) Restaurants & Bakeries
In-Restaurant Promotions & Launch of New Company Website Commemorate 50th Milestone
July 24, 2008 // Franchising.com // Memphis, Tennessee – Since its humble beginnings as a single pancake shop that opened its doors in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1958, the Perkins Restaurant & Bakery chain has been serving up delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner specialties, and irresistible desserts to discerning guests in 34 states and five Canadian provinces. In celebration of its 50th Anniversary, a milestone shared with Jack Kilby's invention of the microchip; the launch of the first passenger jet service on the Boeing 707; and the Wham-O company's introduction of the Hula Hoop®, Perkins has kicked off a series of in-restaurant promotions designed to entice the palette and please the pocketbook. In addition, the Company announces today the public launch of its newly designed company website, www.perkinsrestaurants.com.
Perkins 50th Anniversary celebration culminates with the rollout of www.perkinsrestaurants.com, which in addition to incorporating a completely redesigned layout and graphic feel, integrates guest oriented programs including an eClub, interactive location finder and maps, onsite driving directions, and an invitation to "Meet at Perkins." The commencement of www.perkinsrestaurants.com comes on the heels of a series of in-restaurant promotions that guests at Perkins Restaurants & Bakeries throughout the country have been enjoying since July 1. These include several menu items especially created for Perkins 50th Anniversary including a "Crazy Cookie" tin featuring a dozen cookies each of which are half sugar and half chocolate chip; an Anniversary Platter which includes a stack of three pancakes, two eggs and a cup of seasonal fruit; and not to be outdone, the irresistible Wildberry Silk Pie (photo available upon request) which consists of a chocolate cookie crust, a layer of chocolate ganache topped with wildberry silk mousse and covered with whipped cream.
According to Cheryl Ahlbrandt, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Research & Development, "while things have changed quite a bit since Dwight D. Eisenhower was in office and a gallon of gasoline cost 25 cents, Perkins tradition of offering high quality, distinctive food remains the hallmark of our company as does appealing to the evolving tastes and preferences of our guests. Our anniversary specials, and our new user-friendly website are both testament to Perkins overriding commitment to providing for a positive experience whether that be in restaurant or on-line." Sam Hanhan, Principal at Slingshot Interactive, www.slingshotinteractive.com, the San Diego based web development firm that designed Perkins new website adds "Perkins single minded objective of ensuring trouble free access to its menu, locations, promotions, career and franchising opportunities and more, has been the key priority throughout the design and implementation process. As a result, www.perkinsrestaurants.com is not only pleasing to the eye, it also provides, useful, timely and relevant information across the board."
In addition to the in store promotions and launch of www.perkinsrestaurants.com, Perkins has collected recipes from families around the country for a commemorative 50th Anniversary Cookbook which will be available at participating locations beginning in late September 2008.
1958 may have been the year that VIP's, celebrities and household names including Prince Albert II, Kevin Bacon, Christiane Amanpour and Jeff Foxworthy were born, but to the Perkins Restaurant & Bakery chain, it is the year that marks the beginning of a restaurant success story. Today Perkins is the leading operator and franchisor of 483 full service family dining restaurants located in 34 states and five Canadian provinces.
