Jersey Mike's Subs Raises Funds For Centennial And Frontier High Schools At Grand Opening

April 15, 2009 // Franchising.com // Jersey Mike's Subs has officially opened its doors in Bakersfield. Jersey Mike's owners, Stacy Knight and Carrie Asbury know the importance of community relations and will celebrate their new ties with the area when they hold their grand opening on April 15, 2009.

To commemorate the grand opening, the new restaurant, located at 4715 Coffee Road, is hosting a 5-day fundraiser from Wednesday, April 15 through Sunday, April 19, with proceeds supporting Centennial and Frontier High Schools. Anyone who has a fundraising coupon can get a free regular sub for a $1 donation. Coupons are being distributed throughout the community and in local newspapers.

"We selected these high schools to give back to our local community and foster the values of giving with the students," Knight said.

Reaching out to the community is a key component of Jersey Mike's mission. All franchise owners find ways to support their neighbors, and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as well. "To succeed in business, and in life, we must give back," said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike's founder and CEO. "Stacy and Carrie will do both because they care about the families of Bakersfield. We are firmly behind them and congratulate them as they open the newest Jersey Mike's Subs in California."

"After visiting a Jersey Mike's store in Ventura and trying a sandwich, I was blown away. I loved the product, the people, and the atmosphere. I thought it would be great to bring the product to Bakersfield," said Knight. She contacted her friend Carrie Asbury and together they researched the business concept. According to Asbury, "I loved how the business model focuses on building relationships in the community, serving quality products, and offering excellent customer service."
