Fill 'er Up For The Fourth: Kfc Tops Off Gas Tanks (And Stomachs) This Holiday Weekend To Introduce The New Kfc(R) $5 Fill-Up Box

KFC Gives Away Food & Gasoline Online; Creates First-Ever KFC Filling Station Along I-80 This July 4 Holiday Weekend

July 01, 2009 // Franchising.com // Louisville, KY – As millions of Americans hit the road this Fourth of July weekend, KFC is offering travelers (and their wallets) a break. To kick off the launch of the new KFC $5 Fill-Up Boxes, Kentucky Fried Chicken has opened their very own "filling" station along I-80 where the KFC Colonel will top off Americans' gas tanks – and their stomachs – for only $5.

For a day, the Big Ten Mart in Davenport, Iowa will be transformed into the KFC Filling Station. Patrons will pay $5 for up to 15 gallons worth of gas plus a KFC gift check for a $5 Fill-Up Box. All dollars collected at the KFC Filling Station will be donated to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, a not-for-profit charity dedicated to saving lives and reducing injuries on the roads via public education.

"Fourth of July travelers will log an average of 614 miles roundtrip this upcoming holiday weekend," said Gail Weinholzer, Director of Public Affairs for AAA Iowa. "For just a $5 donation to AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, KFC will top off both gas tanks and stomachs to introduce their new $5 Fill-Up Box."

For those unable to hit the road and visit the KFC Filling Station, the KFC $5 Fill-Up Sweepstakes offers a way for Americans nationwide to "fill-up" at home.

"Colonel Sanders was no stranger to the gas pump," said Javier Benito, executive vice president of marketing and food innovation for KFC. "In 1930, the Colonel opened his first restaurant in the small front room of a gas station in Corbin, Kentucky which he named 'Sanders Court & Café.' It was there he perfected his secret blend of 11 herbs and spices and started serving his Original Recipe to road-weary travelers."
