Jersey Mike's Subs Raises Funds for Any Soldier and the Sentinels of Freedom Owners Celebrate With Free Subs

November 12, 2009 // Franchising.com // Chatsworth, CA - Jersey Mike's Subs officially opened its doors in Chatsworth, CA. Jersey Mike's owners Tom Magglos and Don Johnson know the importance of community involvement and celebrated their new ties with the area during their grand opening on Wed., Nov. 11.

To commemorate the event, the new restaurant, located at 9840E Topanga Canyon Blvd. (in Topanga Town Square), hosted a 5-day fundraiser to benefit Any Soldier® and the Sentinels of Freedom. Anyone who had a fundraising coupon received a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution from Wed., Nov. 11 through Sun., Nov. 15. Coupons were distributed throughout the community and in local newspapers.

"Any Soldier and The Sentinels of Freedom are two charitable organizations that benefit the lives of active and injured members of the military," said Magglos. "As a member of the United States Marine Corps serving from 1968-1970, in the Vietnam Conflict, I feel that we have an obligation to the men and women who help protect our freedom."

The mission of the Sentinels of Freedom is to provide life-changing opportunities for men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who have suffered severe injuries and need the support of grateful communities to realize their goals and dreams.

Any Soldier Inc. started in August 2003 as a simple family effort to help the soldiers in one Army unit. Due to overwhelming requests, on January 1, 2004, the Any Soldier effort was expanded to include any member of the Armed Forces in harm's way.

According to Peter Cancro, founder and CEO of Jersey Mike's Franchise Systems, reaching out to the community is a key component of Jersey Mike's mission. All franchise owners find ways to support their neighbors and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as well. "Tom and Don have real passion and we congratulate them on their new store," said Cancro.

Magglos and Johnson have known each other for some time through their careers as corporate pilots. They met at Flight Safety International in the Gulfstream IV program. They hit it off and decided to go into business together. In their new business venture, they want to build relationships in their community, serve quality products, and offer excellent customer service.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. You can contact this store directly at (818) 727-7827.

Jersey Mike's, a sub sandwich franchise with more than 450 stores open and under development nationwide, has a long history of community involvement and support. Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike's serves authentic Northeast-style subs on fresh baked bread - the same recipe it started with over 50 years ago. The company's mission is to bring its customers the highest quality, freshest made sub in the industry and give back to the communities in which it operates.
