Jackson Hewitt(R) Franchise Names July 29 'Big Tax Check-Up Day' to Help Consumers Make Smart Mid-Year Tax Moves

Local Jackson Hewitt Offices Offer FREE 5-Point Tax Check-Up To Give Taxpayers Steps to Take Now, Company Hosts 12-Hour Q&A on Facebook

PARSIPPANY, N.J. // PRNewswire-FirstCall // -- Few consumers are thinking taxes in the summertime. But tax professionals note that mid-year is an ideal time to make adjustments that can significantly improve an individual's tax position the next time he or she files.

To help consumers make smart mid-year tax moves and plan for the biggest refunds they deserve next year, Jackson Hewitt Tax Service® has named Thursday, July 29, 2010, "Big Tax Check-Up Day." Tax preparers at participating Jackson Hewitt offices will meet with area residents to conduct the "Jackson Hewitt 5-Point Tax Check-Up" – a free, simple tool designed to help taxpayers better understand actions to take now to make a big difference when they file their tax returns in 2011, either by helping to minimize what they owe or by positioning them to take home their own "big checks" as tax refunds.

"With the year more than half over, taxpayers who spend a few minutes now reviewing our '5-Point Tax Check-Up' may find that they can impact their situations for the better when filing their 2010 tax returns," said Harry W. Buckley, president and chief executive officer, Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc. "By designating one day as a 'Big Tax Check-Up Day', we are giving taxpayers easy, actionable steps to take that can pay off in the remaining months of the year and ultimately when they file in 2011."

Throughout the day on July 29, Jackson Hewitt tax preparers will meet with taxpayers free of charge to review the "Jackson Hewitt 5-Point Tax Check-Up", a step-by-step guide on mid-year considerations that can impact a tax return:

  • Life Changes Impact
  • Withholding Alignment
  • Savings Tools
  • Current-Year Expense Planning
  • Expiring Provisions Alert

In addition, representatives from Jackson Hewitt will offer to review taxpayers' year-to-date financial profiles and earnings and take a close look at their most recent tax returns to ensure they took advantage of all of the deductions and credits available. They will also share information about when and how to amend a return, how to respond to an IRS or State tax notice, when to consider changing withholding status and other timely tips.

Jackson Hewitt will also host a 12-hour Q&A session on its national Facebook page. Chief Tax Officer Mark Steber will review questions and post feedback, so that even those who are not able to physically come to a Jackson Hewitt office will have a chance to participate in "Big Tax Check-Up Day."

"The important thing is to start now – don't wait," said Buckley. "Any and all of the '5-Point Tax Check-Up' points could impact a tax return significantly when filing next year."
