Fazoli's Franchise Announces Major St. Louis Expansion; Up to Seven New Restaurants Planned

Chain Finishes Remodeling Current STL Units, Completes Introduction of New Service Style with Real Plates, Glasses and Silver

LEXINGTON, Ky. --(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Fazoli's, the popular quick service Italian chain, is finding the Gateway to the West is a gateway to its future. Based on St. Louis-area guests' response to several changes tested there, Fazoli's is planning a major expansion that includes up to seven new restaurants. The announcement comes as Fazoli's this week completes extreme makeovers of its current St. Louis restaurants and finishes introducing a new service style. Click here for locations.

Fazoli's President and CEO Carl Howard is visiting St. Louis this week looking at potential sites. Fazoli's currently owns nine restaurants in the area, including one that recently opened in Edwardsville, Ill. As part of its investment in the St. Louis market, Fazoli's will finish remodeling all of its older restaurants this week. Fazoli's also has just completed the introduction of an all-new service style in St. Louis. The chain locally employs more than 250 associates.

"St. Louis has always been a very strong Fazoli's town, and consumers have responded very favorably to recent changes we tested there," said Carl Howard, president and CEO. "That makes the St. Louis area a great choice for expansion."

In January, St. Louis-area diners became the first in the nation to experience Fazoli's all new design – its first in more than 15 years – when the chain opened in Edwardsville, Ill. The new, contemporary design provides guests with a more inviting and fun atmosphere. It differs dramatically from the traditional Italian look created when the chain was first developed more than 20 years ago. All St. Louis-area Fazoli's have now been remodeled to reflect the new design.

Fazoli's also re-introduced dining room breadstick service in Edwardsville. As of this week, dine-in guests in all area Fazoli's will enjoy a new level of service that is rare among quick service restaurants including:

  • Meals delivered to tables
  • Styrofoam plates, paper cups and plastic utensils have been replaced by real plates, silverware and glassware
  • Unlimited breadsticks delivered tableside

"The traditional American family meal is becoming an endangered species," Howard said. "Fazoli's goal is to help families return to 'real food' that they can afford and enjoy together, whether in one of our restaurants or at home."

An American family favorite for more than 20 years, Fazoli's is a leading, next generation QSR franchise opportunity. With an all new premium menu featuring freshly prepared Italian entrees, Submarinos® sandwiches and salads, along with a contemporary new restaurant design and fresh leadership, Fazoli's is well positioned for growth. Already America's largest Italian quick service chain with more than 230 restaurants, Fazoli's is expanding in select markets throughout the country. Founded in Lexington, Ky. in 1989, Sun Capital Partners acquired Fazoli's in 2006.

Editor's note: C.E.O. Carl Howard will be in St. Louis today and tomorrow and is available for interviews. Media are welcome to shoot final remodeling work. Video of a remodeled St. Louis restaurant is available.
