Midas Franchise Announces "Next Great Road Song" Finalists

ITASCA, Ill. (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The submissions are in, and the competition for the title is now under way. Midas International Corporation and SPIN today announced the top 20 finalists in their search for the "Next Great Road Song." Listeners can vote to determine the winners at http://rockthehighway.sonicbids.com.

Culled from over 1,200 submissions, the "Next Great Road Song" finalists were selected by a panel of SPIN editors and music industry experts and representatives from contest sponsor Midas. The finalists comprise a diverse mix of the very best and most promising new, original road-trip-ready songs by unsigned bands and solo artists. Finalists are divided into two categories: "Unplugged," for songs using only acoustic, non-amplified instruments, and "Amped" for tracks using any number of instruments, recording style or production methods.

"We have some terrific finalists representing a wide range of genres, styles, arrangements, vocals and lyrics, but we'll have to wait and see what America thinks should be the Next Great Road Song. I must say it was not an easy task to choose among so many excellent submissions," said Mike Bevan, director of retail and field marketing for Midas.

The top three artists in each category, as determined by listener votes, will be featured in a full-page advertisement in SPIN's November 2010 issue, in addition to receiving cash prizes: $5,000 for first place, $2,500 for second place and $1,000 for third place.

Midas and SPIN have partnered with Sonicbids, a website dedicated to connecting promoters with emerging bands, to provide a platform for fans to vote and determine the winner of the "Next Great Road Song" contest. The final round of voting will continue until 11:59 PM on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010. Fans can vote up to once a day for the duration of the voting round, at http://rockthehighway.sonicbids.com.
