Local Do-It-Yourselfers Create Dream Kitchen with Help from Kitchen Tune-Up Franchise

Kitchen Tune-Up professional helps "do-it-yourselfers" create dream kitchen.

Aberdeen, SD (Vocus) Rhonda and David Miller's kitchen had been through a lot. It had survived seventeen years of wear and tear from children and family gatherings. The kitchen had worked well for the Millers, but after many years of the same cookie-cutter cabinets, the Millers decided it was time for an update. "We wanted to change the entire style of our kitchen," explained Rhonda. "We wanted a better quality of cabinets and needed new appliances."

Like many homeowners, the Eden Prairie couple decided they would be able to do a lot of the work themselves. "We knew the look we wanted to achieve and my wife and I thought we were capable of doing a majority of the work," explained David. "However, we knew that there were a few areas in the kitchen that we would need help with."

The Millers saw the Kitchen Tune-Up display at the Metrodome Home and Garden Show in Minneapolis, MN. They were able to meet local Kitchen Tune-Up franchise owner, Steve LaRose, and discuss what plans they had for their kitchen. "We explained that we really like the layout of our kitchen, but we needed a new look," said Rhonda. "Steve understood that we wanted to do a lot of the project ourselves, but that he could be of assistance."

Before consulting Kitchen Tune-Up, the Miller's had basic oak cabinets and a laminate countertop that was installed in the 1980's. They had sufficient cabinet space, but LaRose modified the cabinets to allow for a new microwave and larger refrigerator. They decided they wanted to reface the cabinets and doors with stunning glazed cherry cabinets. The Millers also wanted to add some convenient features, such as a recycling center, roll-out trays, a roll out spice rack and soft-close drawer slides.

After LaRose installed the cabinets and countertops, the Miller's painted the walls and shelving. Rhonda took her creativity a step further and did the all of the tile work in the kitchen, including the inside of the glass cabinet. "Rhonda is quite the craftswoman," said LaRose. "She even designed a tile pattern on the wall above the stove."

"We had a very positive experience working with Kitchen Tune-Up," said Rhonda. "We really liked that Steve is local. He takes pride in his work and does an excellent job." Not only were the Miller's happy with their remodeled kitchen, but the Kitchen Tune-Up Home Office took notice and awarded LaRose with Kitchen Tune-Up's "Project of the Month" award. Kitchen Tune-Up locations across the country compete for the award, which recognizes the most outstanding kitchen or bath makeover across the nation each month.
