Jersey Mike's Subs Raises Funds For Three Local Schools At Grand Opening

Owners Celebrate with Free Subs

November 04, 2010 // Franchising.com // Tallahassee, FL - Jersey Mike's Subs is now open in Tallahassee. This is the first store for the husband and wife franchise team of Angelo and Kimberly Crowell. The Crowell's know the importance of community relations and celebrated their new ties with the area during their grand opening on November 3, 2010.

To commemorate the event, the new restaurant, located at 1801 West Tennessee Street, in the Varsity Place Shopping Center, hosted a two-part fundraiser. All proceeds raised supported Godby High School, Griffin Middle School and Astoria Elementary School.

From Wed., Nov. 3 through Sun., Nov. 7, anyone who had a fundraising coupon received a free regular size sub with a minimum $1 contribution. To engender a little friendly competition, an additional fundraiser continued through Sun., Nov. 14. Each of the schools benefitting from the opening celebration received their own specific coupons offering 50% of the total purchase price of a meal to be contributed to that school. The Crowell's have sweetened the pot by generously offering a matching gift, of up to $1,000, to the school that raised the most.

"We believe it's important to support to the communities in which we serve. Having grown up in Tallahassee, getting a great education served as the foundation for all that I've been able to accomplish. Our hope is that the small things we can do to give back will make a big difference in the community," said Kimberly Crowell. The school district's mission is to prepare students to become responsible, respectful and independent learners and contributing citizens in a diverse world of change. "At Jersey Mike's, we share that commitment to our local children and encourage everyone in the community to help us raise funds to support these three wonderful schools," said Crowell.

Reaching out to the community is a key component of Jersey Mike's mission. All franchise owners find ways to support their neighbors and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as well. "We congratulate the Crowell's on the opening of their first store," said Peter Cancro, founder and CEO of Jersey Mike's Franchise Systems. "With this grand opening, the Crowell's are demonstrating their commitment to the children of Tallahassee."

"I grew up on Jersey Mike's in North Carolina and loved their subs! When I was a freshman in college, I even asked the owner what it took to own one. I never forgot about that conversation and now, years later, it's all happening," said Angelo Crowell. After college Crowell spent seven successful years in the NFL. His first six years were spent with the Buffalo Bills and in 2009 he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "Later on, when Kimberly and I began looking at business opportunities to invest in, we fell in love with the Jersey Mike's business model and its commitment to community service. We were really excited when we learned that they were looking to expand in the market where we live," said Crowell.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday - Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. You can contact this store directly at (850) 765-0712.
