Jersey Mike's Subs Raises Funds For Hope House At Grand Opening

Owners Celebrate with Free Subs

December 10, 2010 // Franchising.com // Norfolk, VA - Jersey Mike's Subs opened its second store in Norfolk (Ghent). Jersey Mike's owners, Martin Anderson and Clark Stallings, know the importance of community relations and celebrated their new ties with the area during their grand opening on Dec. 8.

To commemorate the event, the new restaurant, located at 520 West 21st Street, hosted a 5-day fundraiser from Wed., Dec. 8 through Sun., Dec. 12, with proceeds supporting the Hope House Foundation. Anyone who had a fundraising coupon received a free regular size sub with a minimum $1 contribution. More than 5,000 coupons were distributed throughout the community.

"After speaking with Elena Berry at Hope House and learning of their long history of helping people in the Norfolk area with developmental disabilities, we thought it would be a great charity to work with," said Anderson. "The Hope House Foundation helps people with disabilities to keep their dignity and freedom, allowing them to stay in their home and live a normal, fruitful life with the help of others."

Hope House Foundation is the only organization in Virginia that supports adults with developmental disabilities exclusively in their own homes. Since 1964, it has worked on the frontlines of the battle for independence, community inclusion, and true citizenship for people with developmental disabilities in Hampton Roads. Hope House believes that the people it supports have the right to participate in community life to the fullest extent possible, and to control their own destinies.

"We share that commitment to our community and invite our new neighbors to come in to help us raise funds to support the Hope House Foundation," said Stallings.

Reaching out to the community is a key component of Jersey Mike's mission. All franchise owners find ways to support their neighbors and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as well. "When you are an active contributor in the community it shows," said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike's founder and CEO. "Martin and Clark are truly committed to supporting their community -- we applaud their efforts and congratulate them on their newest store."

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Sunday. You can contact this store directly at (757) 965-5333.
