Austin Dickey's Barbecue Pit Supports 'Toys for Tots' During Grand Opening Friday

The Country's Fastest Growing Barbecue Chain To Raise Funds, Collect Toys During Event

AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 15, 2010 // PRNewswire // -- Dickey's Barbecue Pit in Austin will hold their grand opening 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Friday, December 17th encouraging donations for The Marine Toys For Tots Foundation and selling $1 big barbecue sandwiches to all patrons.

The event will be hosted by Franchise Owner Chris Lottie and General Manager Scott Morgan.

"The community has been so supportive in our first few weeks open and we want to do something to give back," Morgan said. "This is a great opportunity for us to incorporate the holiday spirit and help kids at the same time."

Lottie's said Toys for Tots was an easy choice when picking a cause to partner with.

"I come from a family of Marines. This is a cause that has always been close to my heart," he said. "It feels great to bring 2 things I love together."

Four Marines will be present at the event to help collect toys all day.

Friday is the last day to donate to the organization, according to charity officials.

Generous patrons will enjoy more than that warm fuzzy feeling of doing good, Lottie said those who donate will receive a coupon for 25 percent off their next visit.

Dickey's Barbecue asks all Dickey's Owner/operators to find ways to be good stewards in the communities in which we do business.

"Dallas has been good to us, so we have always wanted to give back. As we expand we are moving into new communities across the country every month," Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. CEO Roland Dickey said. "We want our Owner/Operators to take the value of community stewardship along with the barbecue to their neighbors and friends."

The first Dickey's Barbecue opened in 1941 in Dallas, TX.

The original location is still open for business and Dickey's Barbecue is still owned and operated by the Dickey Family.

Dickey's only began franchising in 1994, now there are 134 locations in 33 states.

Even today, Dickey's still slow smokes all of their signature meats overnight in every restaurant.
