Dickey's Barbecue Pit to Open First Louisiana Location in Houma

The Country's Fastest Growing Barbecue Chain Strategizes to Penetrate the Bayou State

HOUMA, La., Feb. 9, 2011 // PRNewswire // -- Dickey's Barbecue Pit, the largest and fastest growing barbecue chain in the country announces their plan to arrive in Louisiana as the company enters their first franchise agreement in the state.

"We started in Texas, now we in all four corners of the country. It makes all the sense in the world to have a presence so close to our roots," Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. President Roland Dickey Jr. said.

New Louisiana franchisee Carrel Hymel said Dickey's will be the perfect addition to his community.

"We all love barbecue and felt that Houma is missing a family atmosphere, backyard style barbecue restaurant. On our 2 week family road trip to California this summer, we ate at two Dickey's restaurants and were hooked," Hymel said. "We came home and did our research and upon finding out what a great opportunity this was for us, we couldn't pass bringing the first Dickey's to Louisiana."

Hymel along with his wife, Nicole, are already established business owners in the city.

They own and operate daycare centers in the town.

Giving back and being involved in the community is very important to their family, according to the Hymels.

"We have been involved with various events in the community such as the Members of Child Care Association and coaching the Houma-Terrebonne Soccer Associations," Carrel said. "Offering a place to gather to have great food and family fun is importance to us."

Not only are the owners excited, but for Dickey's expansion efforts this is a milestone accomplishment.

"The people of Louisiana are familiar with Texas barbecue and most folks are familiar with Dickey's through traveling in and out of Texas," Dickey's Director of Franchise Development Richard Philips said. "We have a presence in all of Louisiana's surrounding states. This is a no-brainer from a sales, marketing and operations standpoint."

The company's annual growth rate over the past two years has averaged 35 percent, according to company officials.

Dickey's firmly believes it can set the standard in barbecue by continuing to roll out a national footprint.

"Our company's potential for growth lies in our commitment to exceptional barbecue, a great business model and a formula for success," Dickey said.

According to Dickey, there are 60 new locations in the pipeline to open in 2011.

The first Dickey's Barbecue opened in 1941 in Dallas, TX.

The original location is still open for business and Dickey's Barbecue is still owned and operated by the Dickey Family.

Even today, Dickey's still slow smokes all of their signature meats overnight in every restaurant.
