Country's Fastest Growing Barbecue Chain Expands to Porterville

PORTERVILLE, Calif., Sept. 1, 2011 // PRNewswire // -- On the heels of a California expansion, Ed Phillips signs on to open Dickey's Barbecue Pit in his hometown of Porterville.

"I have been in the restaurant business for fifteen years and have always been interested in barbecue," said Phillips, who will own and operate the franchise location. "I settled on Dickey's Barbecue because I like the concept and believe it will be profitable."

Currently, there are nine locations in California, with 11 more scheduled to open before the end of 2011, but this is the first Dickey's location for Phillips.

"I like the support staff at Dickey's. They have all their ducks in a line. Paired with hard work, this guarantees a successful franchise," said Phillips, who previously owned a catering business and successful pizza franchise.

Texas-based Dickey's Barbecue Pit opened in 1941 and began franchising in 1994. Dickey's Barbecue Pit is well-known for their hot pit-smoked signature meats, complimentary ice cream and the big yellow cups.

The original Dallas location is still open for business and Dickey's Barbecue Pit is still owned and operated by the Dickey Family.

There are 171 locations in 39 states.

Even today, Dickey's still slow smokes all of their signature meats overnight in every restaurant.
