GALLUP, N.M., Sept. 13, 2011 // PRNewswire // -- After becoming acquainted with barbecue while working in Texas, Orlin and Gene Skyberg made the decision to open their own Dickey's Barbecue restaurant in Gallup, New Mexico.
"I was born and raised near the Gallup area, but left for college. Since Gallup services all the surrounding communities, my husband and I always thought it was a no-brainer that any restaurant would be successful. We wanted to give the people another option -- delicious barbecue," said Orlin Skyberg, who will own and operate the location with her husband, Gene.
This will be the second Dickey's location in New Mexico.
"We were interested in opening a barbecue joint of some sort. Since we already enjoyed Dickey's food, we did some research on the company and decided that we couldn't go wrong by joining them. Their employees' expertise, enthusiasm, ethics and their overall success simply won us over," said Orlin.
The restaurant remains anchored in Texas, where the first location opened in 1941.

There are 171 locations in 38 states, and holds a 46 percent growth rate with a goal of 200 stores by the year's end.
