Country's Fastest Growing Barbecue Chain Brings National Eating Contest to Overland Park

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Sept. 14, 2011 // PRNewswire // -- Kansas is set to host the Midwest round of the National Barbecue Eating Contest on September 17 at 1 p.m. for Dickey's Barbecue Pit.

"Kansas is a new market for us and we look forward to growing in the community," said Roland Dickey, Jr., president of Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. "Overland Park is an exciting city and we love being a part of it."

Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to go by the Dickey's location at 7284 W. 121st Street to sign up prior to September 17.

"Dickey's Barbecue has been around for 70 years and we want to celebrate in a big way with the communities that have welcomed us over the years," said Dickey. "I can't wait to watch the finals and congratulate the national winner personally."

The contestant who eats the most pulled pork sandwiches in six minutes will win a trip to Dallas to compete in the National Dickey's Barbecue Eating Contest at the original Dickey's Barbecue Pit.

Throughout September, Dickey's will host five Barbecue Eating competitions across the country and then send each first place winner to Dallas for the national competition on October 18, Dickey's Barbecue Pit's 70th anniversary.

The original Dallas location is still open for business and Dickey's Barbecue Pit is still owned and operated by the Dickey Family.

There are 172 locations in 39 states.
