Jersey Mike's Subs Raises Funds For Middle Schools At Grand Opening

Owners Celebrate with Free Subs

September 21, 2011 // Franchising.com // September 21, 2011 • Encinitas, CA: Jersey Mike's Subs officially opened its doors in Encinitas. Jersey Mike's owners Susan and Joseph Weir know the importance of community relations and celebrated their new ties with the area during the grand opening on September 21.

To commemorate the event, the new restaurant, located at 1070 N El Camino Real, hosted two 5-day fundraisers. The first one was from Wed., Sept. 21 through Sun., Sept. 25, with proceeds supporting Diegueno Middle School. A week later, a second fundraiser supporting Oak Crest Middle School was from Wed., Sept. 28 through Sun., Oct. 2. Anyone who had a fundraising coupon received a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution. Coupons are being distributed throughout the community and in local newspapers.

″In California, the schools have been under incredible pressure to improve their performance during a period of drastic funding cuts. Our goal is to help offset some of these budget cuts and improve the student experience,″ said Joseph Weir. ″When you work to improve another person's life – you improve your own for free.″ Both middle schools work hard to ensure that all students reach their full potential and remain life-long learners. The Weirs will complement this important mission with their grand opening fundraising efforts. ″By supporting the schools we hope to nurture the future of the community,″ said Weir.

Reaching out to the community is a key component of Jersey Mike's mission. All franchise owners find ways to support their neighbors and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as well. ″We all have a responsibility to give back,″ said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike's founder and CEO. ″Joe and Susan care about Encinitas and are demonstrating how businesses can contribute to their communities. We congratulate the Weirs on their community spirit and on the opening of their first Jersey Mike's Subs location.″

″Great people and great food are the hallmarks that attracted me to the Jersey Mike's brand. I am a mentor at heart,″ Weir said. ″I look forward to developing my team, making outstanding subs, and being a business owner in my hometown. My favorite sub is the #6 – famous roast beef and provolone – Mike's Way (onions, lettuce, tomato, red wine vinegar, olive oil blend and spices) of course,″ he said.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. You can contact this store directly at (760) 634-6800.
