Wichita Falls Becomes Home for a New Dickey's Barbecue Pit

New Franchise Owners Sign a Lease in Texas

WICHITA FALLS, Texas, Nov. 9, 2011 // PRNewswire // -- Franchise owners Clay and Stephanie Stockton have found a place where their Dickey's Barbecue Pit will reside. A lease has been signed and the store will open once the location has been revamped to become an authentic Dickey's location.

"We're most excited about bringing a new restaurant to Wichita Falls that will change the way people eat barbecue," said Clay Stockton. "Dickey's Barbecue knows no boundary lines -- it's classy enough to have at a formal wedding, but it's inexpensive enough to eat at a jobsite."

The new store is located at 3911 Lawrence Rd, Suite 600. It is 1,600 square feet and is located in a busy shopping center.

"This is a great location," said Roland Dickey, Jr., president of Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. "Clay and Stephanie are great people and will be a great asset to the Wichita Falls community."

In 1941 Travis Dickey started up the restaurant north of downtown Dallas. He rented part of his store's sign to Dr. Pepper in order to pay for the startup cost. His menu consisted of his own Texas barbecue recipes and everything he made had to be just right. Travis Dickey continued to run his business day in and day out for 26 years. In 1967, Dickey passed away while doing what he loved -- preparing great barbecue.

Travis Dickey's sons, Roland Dickey Sr. and T.D. Dickey Jr. took over the restaurant and began their journey to expand their father's restaurant throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In 1994, the company began franchising and within 11 years it had acquired 55 locations. Currently, Dickey's has 186 locations nationwide and is said to have 200 stores by the end of this year.
